Auditing software for a CentOS server

Hi, I'm running some databases's software on a CentOS 4.5 server and I'd like to know if there are any audit software in CentOS4.5 CDs packages?.....I need some software to audit all the files on the server, I mean, if some one delete a file, or change some permissions on any filesystems, if someone copy files to my server and some of this stuff... take in mind I'm not lookign for an IDS.. I just want to audit my server... thanks in advance Israel

Internet threat management package

... Looking for a recommendation for a commercial threat management package. ( Think antivirus / antispy / anti-rootkit -- all rolled into one engine ), similar to this product: http://usa.kaspersky.com/products_services/work-space-security.php, which currently only supports one kernel for FC6, and RHEL4, officially. Here's the background. Need to make a decision and investment for a hybrid linux/windows network, with a Samba file server running Centos5. Would like to invest a single product, rather than multiple products, especially since that implies that I'm not giving money to companies that only provide software for Windows. (or, supporting companies that provide software solutions for Linux, depending on how you look at it.) Not even sure if I have the right idea. I would assume that Linux clients are not completely invulnerable to virii, spyware, and rootkits, and that it would make sense, in a small corporate environment to guard against them, the same as Windows machines... but the lack of options seems to suggest otherwise? Anyone have any tips, advice, or recommendations? Thanks!! -- J.

Postgres Config File (eg: PGDATA)

Hi guys, need some clarification on whether there is a config file sourced by the init script to determine where PGDATA is located. Right now, it seems like it's not sourced from anywhere by located on the init file itself. Appreciate if you guys can let me know if this is the correct place for altering it.

automounted filesystem appears empty on first reference

I have an odd automount problem. The first time I look in an automounted filesystem (when the mount is requested), it is empty; the second time it is not. Moreover, I only see this behavior on Centos 4.x systems, but not on Centos 5.0 systems going to the same fileserver. Here's an example, with some details simplified to clarify. In this example, fileserver1 is exporting fs1. centos4$ /bin/ls /mnt/fileserver1/fs1 # first time, directory looks empty centos4$ /bin/ls /mnt/fileserver1/fs1 # second time, I see the contents file1 dir2 I don't see this on Centos 5, which comes with a new (v5.x vs v4.x) version of automount: centos5$ /bin/ls /mnt/fileserver1/fs1 # I see the contents right away, on the first try file1 dir2 I watched the logs on fileserver1, and automount request is logged immediately after the first ls prints nothing. The automount maps are stored in ldap. The Centos4 and Centos5 systems are referencing the same maps. The entry in auto.master for fileserver1 (for cn=/mnt/fileserver1) is: ldap:ou=auto.fileserver1,ou=autofs,dc=example,dc=com --timeout=86400 --ghost -o rw,hard,async,noatime,intr,retrans=4,timeo=100,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 and in auto.fileserver1 is (for cn=*): fileserver1.example.com:/export/& At first I thought it had to do with the --ghost, but I took that out and adjusted things and still had the same problem. It is completely reproducible if I umount the automount between tries. Any idea what is causing this? I have been unable to find a similar-sounding problem, even with extensive Googling. Why does the first automount appear to be asynchronous, with some kind of race condition, and the second is synchronous? I even see a little hesitation on the centos5 box before ls prints the directory contents, so it appears to be waiting for the automount to complete. All the Centos 4 and Centos 5 boxes are current with "yum update". This problem is causing failures on some of our applications because they don't see their data the first time they run, when the automount occurs We see this across many boxes, and several fileservers (the fileservers are Fedora Core 5 and 6 machines, for stupid reasons). hi all!! i have som experince with xen in other distros, i never used xenmanager or interfaces do work with xen, im trying to install a centos5 guest , but i get always the same error "virDomainCreateLinux() failed", i have selinux disabled, no firewall, using mirror http://centos.oi.com.br/5.0/os/i386, using a file: for disk. Cross-platform GUI libraries with drag 'n drop IDEs

OS: CentOS 5.0 x86. I am a programmer, relatively new to GNU/Linux and am looking for cross platform GUI development, mainly for EL5 and Windows. I have found wxWidgets so far. I prefer drag 'n drop programming IDEs, QT seems to provide this for GNU/Linux, but it isn't free for Windows. Does anyone know of any decent GUI cross-platform library for EL5 and Windows with a drag 'n drop IDE? Thanks.

excluding directories in rsync

Hello Everyone, I am trying to exclude a directory (and all file and sub-directories under that directory) when using rsync. I have spent two days on google, but everything that I can find there involves excluding individual files, not an entire directory. I have tried the following commands, but in each case the remove_dir and all of its sub-directories and files area still sent to the remote server. 1) rsync --delete --compress --archive --rsh=ssh --exclude="**/remove_dir/**" /local/path/ $user@$host:remote/path 2) rsync --delete --compress --archive --rsh=ssh --exclude="\*\*/remove_dir/\*\*" /local/path/ $user@$host:remote/path 3) rsync --delete --compress --archive --rsh=ssh --exclude="/local/path/**/remove_dir/**" /local/path/ $user@$host:remote/path 4) rsync --delete --compress --archive --rsh=ssh --exclude-from=/path/to/exclude_file /local/path/ $user@ $host:remote/path and the /path/to/exclude_file contains: # don't include these files/dirs - **/remove_dir/** Any thoughts on the proper way to exclude an entire directory and its sub-directories and files when doing an rsync? -- Doug Registered Linux User #285548 (http://counter.li.org) ---------------------------------------- Random Thought: QOTD: If it's too loud, you're too old.
