Compilation of kernel failed for CentOS 5

I downloaded the src rpm for CentOS 5 and tried to recompile it. Apple hfs mounting help. OT maybe?

I am running a CentOS 3 server with a kernel version -2.4.21-40. I typically use Webmin to accomplish mounting varied filesystems, but this one has me buffaloed. We have a Thecus N5400 that was mounted on a Mac and a ton of data was written to it. All of the data was placed in yearly folders with content-related folders below the yearly folders. When I mount this through Webmin as an smbfs mount, all I see are these files that look something like .Apple01 and some index files. (sorry this was done yesterday, I couldn't leave the network configured and in place to connect to the N5400, and don't remember exactly what it showed). So I assume this is the way the Mac wrote the filesystem. When I try to mount it as an Apple hfs, I get a message that the fs type is not supported by this kernel. Might anyone have a clue as to how I can get this mounted to show me the real data the way it looks on the Mac. All I really need to do is to change the mod recursively so that older yearly folders are read only. The web interface for the N5400 has this option, but it only works on the top level yearly folder and not the secondary folders below. Thanks for any help and I apologize for what could be OT. What program do you guys use for mp3 CD ripping? I have CentOS 5.0 x86. Sound Juicer seems is missing any mp3 plug in. Thanks in advance.

Hogwash! Never trust anything in a wiki. They can make up anything they like. With computers, it is always base 2 not 10. All your computer commands are going to give one base 2 numbers even disk drive space. Yes, the disk drive and probably tape drive manufactures are cheating you when they say MB as they mean base 10, but they know full well it is suppose to be base 2. It is like the monitor manufacturers who started measuring the plastic case and quoting that as the screen size. It is really a 15" monitor but with 2" of plastic, they call it 17".

font test does not go higher than 49 - centos 4 x86_64

Below is a small script - ran by "wish -f file.tcl" When I run this script and move the slider bar at the bottom on centos 4 x86_64 I get increasing font sizes from 5 to 49. Anything 50 and after is all the same size. How do I get bigger fonts? Since CentOS is an Enterprise-class Linux Distribution derived from sources freely provided to the public by a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor, can that "prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor" delay the release of the source of a specific package? If yes, for how long? Thanks

divide centos-announce

I was thinking the last few days, wouldn't it be better to divide the centos-announce list by the archs, so that if I'm interested in the i386 arch, I only get those, and not the ia64, or the s390. I was reading where xfontsel is the OLD method of selecting fonts before antialiasing. What is the new method to show available fonts on the system and select them? How do I list or show the available anti-aliases fonts? Jerry

Problem reading smbfs mounted filesystems with OpenOffice etc

Mounted smbfs directories/files using line in fstab (CentOS 4.4) - mounts OK, but when I attempt to open files, I get the message "Error loading document ..... The operation on <document> was started with an invalid parameter". Any help appreciated please. Thanks, Andy
