196 packages to install or update ??

Hi, today I did a yum upgrade and see that there was 193 packages to update and 3 packages to install... I always upgraded my server (with yum) on a weekly basis so I don't undestand how it is possible to have a so big update. Is there something wrong with my yum setup ? A mix between different versions of CentOS ? I'm running CentOS 4 i386 Thank you

Hi Everybody, Does anyone could install CentOS 4.4 on Tyan Teledo i3010w (S5197) successfully ? without any kernel parameter when boot up. I haven't buy it yet. But I want to make sure it works with CentOS 4.4. Thanks. Ceg Ryan

AcroRead failing miserably in CentOS 5.0

I could swear that this was working just last week, but now when I run the Adobe Acrobat reader, it hangs. If I run it "directly" (/usr/bin/acroread) with -DEBUG as the first argument, I get an infinite loop of: expr: syntax error I tried removing and reinstalling it, but no change. VMWare Client COS 5 Disk Type

When creating a VMWare client that is Cent OS 5, the default SCSI disk is not recognized by the installer. Any suggestions for getting a disk on a COS5 client? Possible alternatives: 1) IDE disk, seems to work fine, 2) ??. Follow up to choice 1, is there a performance hit? While I have you, what is the best choice for "Guest Operating System".? Choices include RHEL, RHEL 4, and Other 2.6 Kernel. -- Sincerely, John Thomas

Alpha port for CentOS-5

Hi guys, there seem to be a few people interested in the Alpha port for CentOS-5. And here is what the situation is : 1) There is a functional Alpha available at my home. 2) I am not interested in doing any of the porting work but will be happy to help with some parts of the testing. So, now the situation is - how many people are really interested ? And if there is enough interest - how many people really want to put in the efforts ( and have the know how ) to work on this ? If there is enough interest, I am happy to make my Alpha available over remote access to the people who are going to work on the port. the machine has enough ram and enough resources to handle most of the work, I've been building CentOS-4 kernels and gcc / glibc on there - its a dual cpu EV5 series machine. confused with 2 boxes centos 5

Hi All, I had a box centos5 AMD64 X2 4200+, Asus motherboard, Nvidia 7100 video card, 512M, when playing a video at 1080p it did well but had a couple times went out of sync. So amd dropped its price and I got a 5200+, gigabyte motherboard, Nvidia 7100 video card, 512M. This FASTER system is actually slower. The video is WAY behind on sync. I have looked at the X config they are the same. I have the same mplayer version I have the same centos 5 version The CPU usage is actuall below 60. I ran "cpuspeed -C &" on both boxes /proc/cpuinfo on both boxes report the correct values. 4200+, 512cache, clocked at 2200 5200+ 1024 cache, clocked at 2600 What can be causing the faster machine to SUCK so bad at playing the video back? On a centos 4.4 yum update I get this Error: Missing Dependency: libmysqlclient_r.so.14(libmysqlclient_14) is needed by package MySQL-python Error: Missing Dependency: libmysqlclient_r.so.14 is needed by package MySQL-python I don't want to overly speculate... is it just a mirrors syncing thing or? Only thing I can think of is I installed perl 5.8.8 from centosplus repo in the last week for Spamassassin purposes and it snagged some mysql stuff at same time. lspci gives 02:04.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Unknown device 8167 (rev 10) insmod r8169 loads the module but doesn;t pick the card up. Im connecting to internet using a live CD. how do i get centos 5(vanilla install) to recognise my lan card!? thanks R
