yum upgrading

I have boxes on CentOS 4.2 that I want to move to CentOS5. Are there any problems envisaged in trying to move 4.2->4.3, 4.3->4.4 and 4.4->5.0, using yum upgrade and changing the repositories at each stage? I guess it is not too good an idea to try it in one step. Or do I need the CDs? Can anyone advise? Problems with Server and Mail server

Hi... I've have problem with my file and mail server. I have a Centos 4 with file and mail server for my office network, which is compose with Linux (xandros 4) and windows (2k) work stations. The problem is that suddenly some linux machines can't access the the remote files on the server, but they can see the server in the file manager, but there is no files. When I enter as root, there is no problem... I can access remote files and devices in the server or in other machines (shared folder, files or devices). Windows machines can access anywhere (server and others work stations, linux and windwos); some linux machine can access anywhere too, but other can't access the server but can access shared resources. I think it may be a access permition issue, but this happens from one day to another, and in at least 3 linux machines... so, where can i look for solution in my server? Other thing is the mail server (outgoing) doesn't work, when i try to send a mail through the mail server (the same file server machine), it search for the outgoing server (192.168.0.10) and can't establish connection. A linux user friend told me to shutdown the machine and disconect the power cord for a minute and then restart the system. It worked for a time, but then it start the same problem and can only be solved by shooting down the system, and that is a bad solution. The mail server use to work fine, 24/7. These 2 problems start when a electric crash burned out the router, and then when i replaced it the start to happen, but router configuration is fine and doesn't seem to have a problem. So I ran it with the --initial=dual-head option (only). Segmentation fault. 5) Saved the xorg.conf file and went in to edit it. It looked liked the below with a few fewer lines (no aticonfig[1] entries at all). I added all the aticonfig[1] entries where they are now, but the desktop horizontal option was not there. 6) Rebooted. 7) X came up with mirrored desktops again. I logged in as root and ran system-config-display (from the gnome menu). it said "Individual desktops" so I changed that to "Spanning desktops"). Saved that (no monitor or video card changes). Then I vi'ed into the xorg.conf file and noticed the first device had the desktop horizontal option turned on. Just in case, I added it to the first aticonfig[0] device, too. Saved a copy of that, just for good measure. Then I logged out. 8) New screen: left screen had the login box, all stretched out. Right screen - the blue background. I logged in as me and now I have spanning desktops (finally) again. Thanks to all, but mostly Jeff Stacey, who hung in there and kept sending me occasional hints. This time, it all fell into place. Wield CPU load problem??

Recently we installed CENTOS 4.4 on DELL 2650 server. We found CPU load always on 3 and up if we run "top" or "w" to check. qmake on centos 5

I have done a "yum install qt-devel" on centos 5. I dont seem to be able to find qmake? how do I get qmake on centos 5? THanks, jerry

CentOS 4.4 Installation on Dell poweredge 2900 raid 1 + raid 5 fail

Hi All, I install CentOS 4.4 without additional driver disk. When I partition the disk, I create nothing on the raid 5, and I just create " / " " /boot " and "swap" on the raid 1. And it works. When I create a mount point /storage on the raid 5 and create " / " " /boot " and "swap" on the raid 1. The error comes again, saying that there are inconsistency on the raid /dev/sdb1 What should I do? Regards, Fung

Last time I did this I had to add Option "DesktopSetup" "horizontal" under the first device section. I don't have the card anymore so I can't check my config. CentOS 5 Xen Files Left in /var/lib/xen ..

I have a machine with four guests on it, and it seems to create and leave lots of files with names like vmlinuz.LqKA3h and initrd.kolvQu in directory /var/lib/xen. The remain there even when all guests are gracefully shut down .. and additional ones get created when they are next started. The end result, of course, is that the root file system fills up. So .. how can I prevent this from happening? I've got SELinux disabled and I have Guest files in /XenGuests.
