Centos 5 - CentOS-5.0-x86_64-bin-7of7.iso - 7of 7 -x86_64

Is anyone having problems with the newly released centos 5 CentOS-5.0-x86_64-bin-7of7.iso<http://mirrors.easynews.com//linux/centos/5.0/isos/x86_64/CentOS-5.0-x86_64…>(-x86_64). During installation the installer accepts all other iso i burnt on cd except CentOS-5.0-x86_64-bin-7of7.iso<http://mirrors.easynews.com//linux/centos/5.0/isos/x86_64/CentOS-5.0-x86_64…>. I have downloaded CentOS-5.0-x86_64-bin-7of7.iso<http://mirrors.easynews.com//linux/centos/5.0/isos/x86_64/CentOS-5.0-x86_64…>from 4 different mirror site with the same result - installer complains thatCentOS-5.0-x86_64-bin-7of7.iso<http://mirrors.easynews.com//linux/centos/5.0/isos/x86_64/CentOS-5.0-x86_64…>is NOT 7 of 7. Has anyone had the same problem? PM

Weird time(zone)?

I installed CentOS 5 on a server today (wiping clean the drive which had 4.4 on it). During installation I picked the correct timezone, location and all. Yet, upon booting the machine, it seems to think that it's 6 hours earlier than it really is. The BIOS has the correct time and date on it. /etc/locatime was originally what /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Denver would've been. I removed it and symlinked it instead thinking it might change things - it didn't. Right now, 'date' tells me: [1] 13:21:12 <root@bigbertha:~> date Sat Apr 14 13:21:13 MDT 2007 But it's actually 19:21... So, uh, what's going on? Why is the time so off? Installing The kernel development Package in CentOS 5

I need to install the kernel development package for CentOS 5, I saw the RPMs on the DVD but didn't see an option at installation time like 4.4. I only need it to install VMware Server 1.02, any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Wiping USB drives

Hi, I have a dozen of drives, ranging from 10Gb to 200Gb. I want to wipe them clean before donating them. I have a IDE/SATA to USB converter that works. I can see the drives properly. Looking for a good disk exerciser

I recently added a Seagate 400Gb SATA drive to my system, and it has been behaving strangely since I put it in. for one thing, the BIOS S.M.A.R.T. came up with a warning the last time I booted with it enabled, saying that I should backup my data and replace the disk (!). I still have not made any irreversible data transfers to this drive, and I have some time yet to take it back, but I'd like to know for sure that it needs it, or at least have some reasonable evidence of failure. What is a good program out there that exercises a disk to give some assurance of errors or lack thereof? Thanks. CentOS 5 dual boot with XP success

Hello. A happy, error-free report about my experiences last night. Only one small inconvenience in the install. I have an AMD Athlon64 3700+ in a MSI Neo2-F motherboard (Via K8T800 Pro chipset), with a WD Raptor SATA drive and an older WD 80gig IDE drive. The system has 1 gig of RAM and a CDROM (not DVD). The on-board network is a Realtek 8169/8110 chip. My video is a 6800GT (AGP). The BIOS instructs the machine to boot off the SATA drive first, which is partitioned completely to a recent install of Win XP SP2. Using CentOS 5 CDs, I booted and began the installation on my IDE drive. I told Grub to install itself on the SATA drive's MBR (this required going to the advanced options menu), and I partitioned my IDE drive entirely to / , except for 1 gig to swap and 10 gig to vfat (for a simple, common writeable partition between XP and Linux). I installed CentOS 5 without glitches, rebooted, and Grub came up as it should. I proceeded to boot to CentOS. My one problem: no network. The Realtek chip was not detected. I rebooted to XP, did some googling, and figured out that I needed to download the appropriate Realtek drivers, build and install them. I put the drivers on my vfat partition (grabbing the NVidia video drivers too), rebooted to CentOS, built/installed the drivers, and then had to reboot one more time before network would work. All finished! The slowest part of the process was customizing which packages to install and sitting around waiting to swap discs. My old Lite-On CD burner has been moved forward through a few system builds now... it keeps chugging. Brian Barnes Washington University in St. Louis

Install of CentOS fails on systems less 256MB RAM

When try to install CentOS 5 via ftp on an system with less then 256MB RAM it fails. After select the ftp server witch contains the data, some files are loaded, then the dialog witch prompt for the ftp sever is shown again.

Need a driver for a Canon MP160 printer

As usual, virtually every printer on the market comes with Windows, and sometimes Mac OS, drivers for the printers, but they almost never come with Unix/Linux drivers. This time Google was not my friend. I got a pointer to a drivr, dommon<something>mp160.ppd that doesn't appear to exist anywhere on the web, and there are two driver files from Canon Asia that want a lot of i386 libraries, including a newer glibc than I am NOT prepared to inflict on my x86_64 machine until CentOS 5 (once I get that bloody disk drive replaced with a good one). Any suggestions? Is there anything like the Windows UPD available on Linux/Unix/CentOS? That would be a coup for whoever did it.... Thanks. OT: AMD CPU actual speed....

I know this is a bit OT, but the subject of CPU speed came up here and I was (and have been for some time) curious: What is the actual speed of an AMD CPU? E.g., I have a Athlon 64 X2 "4200+" but my /proc/cpuinfo shows 1005.164 MHz for the two cores. What do those mean? Is there a reference for this (huge) discrepancy? Also, is there a way (and what) to tell what the actuall running speed of memory is? Thanks.
