Can up2date use a local yum mirror?

If so, how do you configure the up2date client that comes with CentOS to look at the local yum mirror? Conversely, how do you disable the CentOS Network Alert Notification Tool so that users won't see the "throbbing red circle" and be tempted to launch the up2date client? Thanks, Alfred

Problem with xen on Centos-4.4?

I am running a Xen installation on a Centos-4.4 based test box, my desktop unit, and I am having intermittent problems installing certain pieces of software. Some time back I posted to this list regarding my inability to install Adobe Acrobat on this unit and was advised to essentially repackage the software and try again. This is beyond my present means of knowledge or time to acquire same and so left undone. Now however I am having remarkably similar problems with two official Centos-4.4 updates, xorg-x11-xfs and openssh-server. Can anybody give me some clues as to what is going on and how I might correct this. I am sure that xen is involved in this somehow because I run four other servers with Centos-4.4 and none of them have displayed this problem. I shoulda knowd.... Okay, this may seem dumb, but I imagine I've already been there.... I am little worried about these probes. CentOS: scanning

Hi! I've been using v.-4.4 since last Oct, and I'm quite satisfied, *except* for *one* thing: I can't scan! Both kooka and xsane report "no devices available." That doesn't affect printing, but every time I have to scan something, I've to go back to Mandriva or Ubuntu. I've had this HP psc-2410 for a couple of years. I scanned successfully with Fedora Core-3, Mandrake-10C, Mandriva-2006.0, and Ubuntu-2.6.15, but *not* CentOS-4.4! /usr/share/doc/sane-backends-1.0.14 /etc/sane.d/dll.conf: uncommented last line "hpoj" /etc/rc.d/init.d: hpoj /etc/rc.d/rc5.d: @S54hpoj @S55cups /proc/bus/usb/devices: T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=03f0 ProdID=3611 Rev= 1.00 S: Manufacturer=hp S: Product=psc 2400 series $ ptal-connect: mlc:usb:psc_2400_series $ scanimage -test scanimage: no SANE devices found Since I'm a user, not a hacker, I don't know what else to do. The equivalent of Ghosting the system

If I were to lose my main hard drive, I would like to have the opportunity to do the same as I can do using Windows: restore from my USB and have a working system. If I were to rsync everything on the main drive (excluding the backup drive, of course and a few other directories) to my USB drive, could I restore using some CD based version of Linux e.g. Knoppix? Can't install Centos 4.4 64bit

Hi, I just built a new computer and wanted to install Centos 4.4 64bit on it. Specs AMD x2 64bit 3800+ EE Asus M2NBP-VM CSM 1 GIG RAM 60GIG HD IDE I can get it to boot from the cd and select language etc, and then it askes where the install is coming from. Cd, hd, network etc. Whats up it boots from the cd but then says its not there when it running from the cd. Any suggestions? Thanks Scandog -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Mounting a LVM partition on a USB attached drive

I have one of those USB hard drive cases, and I have my old hard drive in it. Eventhough I have made the changes to mount multiple USB drives in one USB device (works fine for my media play with internal and SD drive), I am only getting the first partition (/Boot (2)) automounted. df does not show anything more about the drive, but the gnome hardware browser shows all three partitions on the drive: /dev/sda sda1 ext3 sda2 linux-swap sda3 LVM Physical Volume Naturally it is sda3 that I want to access. So far my google searches have come up empty.
