Donated Servers

The CentOS Project needs donated servers in the following regions: 1. South America 2. Africa 3. Asia 4. Asia Pacific / Oceania We have several US servers (23) and some servers in the EU (5). Only 1 in South America and one in Asia/Pacific and none in Asia/Africa. Installing CentOS over LAN

I want to set up a server that will do network installs of CentOS, perhaps through NFS. Ideally, I'd put a CentOS in the CD of the target computer, I boot it off of that CD, and then the rest is done over my network and with the server. Has anyone done that and published it? Where can I find docs? === Al

How to install rkhunter properly

Hi list, after a bit of struggling I found out how to cleanly install rkhunter ... maybe this is useful for you: * Download rkhunter (I downloaded v 1.2.8) * mv /etc/rpm/platform /root/etc_rpm_platform * setarch i386 rpmbuild -ta --target=i386 rkhunter-1.2.8.tar.gz * mv /root/etc_rpm_platform /etc/rpm/platform * rpm -ivh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/noarch/rkhunter-1.2.8-1.noarch.rpm * wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/rkhunter/hashupd.sh?download * chmod +x hashupd.sh * ./hashupd.sh In general I had 2 problems: * On my 64 bit machine, the __libdir was set to /usr/lib64 whereas rkhunter uses an ugly "/usr/lib" (solved with moving the platform file temporarily) * rkhunter -c showed me all the binaries in /bin /sbin/ and /usr/bin as 'bad'. Sorry for the top post, but yahoo is dumb. Maybe its just me though... Yes, we are running with iSCSI filesystems mounted. CentOS 4.4 iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-4 GFS Performance using iozone (I don't have the test run data available, but it was acceptable given the redundancy and concurrent write operations GFS gives us) testing was good on the test systems, but we haven't done testing on the final production systems yet. I'm waiting to resolve mounting the third iSCSI partition properly on 2/4 of the cluster nodes before running an all-out test. Assuming write caching from CentOS 4.4 to iSCSI device

Hi list, CentOS 4.4 connecting to Promise M500i iSCSI disk array. 2/4 servers connect fine with iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-4. The other 2 servers have this in dmesg: SCSI device sdb: 1 512-byte hdwr sectors (0 MB) sdb: asking for cache data failed sdb: assuming drive cache: write through SCSI device sdb: 1 512-byte hdwr sectors (0 MB) sdb: asking for cache data failed sdb: assuming drive cache: write through sdb:<6>Device sdb not ready. end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 0 Device sdb not ready. end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 0 Device sdb not ready. end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 0 Attached scsi disk sdb at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 The drive does not allow connections after this failed attempt at guessing the write cache type. Is there a way to hard-code the write cache setting on the server? Anyone experience this with other hardware/iscsi/promise devices? win32:tenga on samba share

I have a box set up for home use, but it was used as a massive file share for a bunch of friends. I only allowed 3 accounts to this share with password. I believe over time someone loaded a file that had the win32:Tenga virus on it. I usually clean the files and download what I need but I leave the files on the Share. I have lots of directories and files on this. I have been using Trend Micro from a remote windows box to clean them periodically but for some reason it rears it ugly head every once and a while. Large disk support

I have a 3.5 TB RAID 5 Array through a 3ware 9590SE 8 port card, and am running into what seems like quite a lot of problems trying to get the system installed correctly. The system is a running dual Opterons with 2 GB of RAM, and I'm attempting to install through the x86_64 ServerCD. First, grub refuses to install on the disk, as it's too large. I can get around this though by booting Fedora Core 6 in rescue mode and running grub, as it can deal with the disk size correctly. This might only be working when I attempt installs that don't utilize as much of the array as possible though (100 MB /boot, 2GB swap, 10Gb /, the rest left unallocated). Secondly, there seems to be a problem using msdos disk labels with large partitions, and I can't seem to find any solutions to this in the manuals or on the net. GPT labels are offered as a solution to this but only for Itanium systems. Am I missing some obvious solution to this? Are there some best practices for dealing with large disks anyone can share that may save me problems now or later? I'm open to suggestions, as all I've encountered so far are problems. -- - Kevan Benson - A-1 Networks
