Hi All, first time post so please excuse any blunders
We are specifying two servers using supermicro X7DBE+ MB and want to add on a SAS controller
for Raid 10. We want to use the CentOS 4.4 X86_64 distro.
We are currently considering an Intel CC SRCSAS144E SAS Raid Controller for the servers
using 4 Fujitsu 147 GB SAS HDD, and a Adaptec SASC RAID 4805 8-port for the server using 6
Fujitsu 147 GB SAS HDD.
Any feedback on this distro, the supermicro X7DBE+, or SAS controllers would be appreciated.
Thanks

Do you have i686 kernel running (rather than i586) ?
I had such message on Fedora Core 6 which installed i586 kernel on my PIII
CPU.

I need to replace my Abit BE7 board (cannot run the newer Linux) and
keep my near new IDE HD's (250 GB). A D865GLC is new available that
uses the Intel 865G chip set, but I have no experience in matching
Mobo's with Linux.

I've got a IBM BladeCenter with its integral TCPIP KVM and centos and
stuff running on various blades, we use this mostly for software testing
purposes in a small development group.
i wanted to boot the liveCD so I could try and recover some files from a
totally screwed up system (disk got fsck'd beyond what I feel
comfortable repairing)... so I map an ISO image of the CentOS 4.4
live CD on the virtual CD drive function of the blade chassis, and
reboot my broken blade on it. getting fatal errors from the boot that
it can't find the CD drive.
screen capture with it crispy.
http://hogranch.com/files/Bitmaps/remotescreen1.png
the regular CentOS Server CD was boot fine on these blades not long
ago. there -is- an oddness where sometimes the virtual CD shows up as
a second SCSI CD drive to the target.
Here is the information about the stand as well.
Kind regards,

Hi Dag
(another confirmation mail sent to Frederic Hornain, so it's 1 for
CentOS and 1 for Fedora)
This is the official confirmation that your request for a stand/booth at
FOSDEM 2007 has been accepted and booked.
Number of stands for your project: 1
(each stand is actually a table of 2m width)
All stands are located in the hallway of the main building (H).
The stand(s) will be at your disposal,
- - Saturday: 14:00 -> 18:00
- - Sunday: 09:00 -> 18:00
Note that on Saturday, it will be somewhat tedious to build up the
stands before 14:00 as university courses are being held in all rooms
until then.
We will do our best to provide network in the hall but as you might know
if you were present at a past FOSDEM, it's not an easy task and it is
quite possible that there will be some issues.
The network team is currently working on the plan but normally there
will be wired network in the hall.
Please try to bring some hardware along, especially
- - power cables, multiple plugs
- - a switch, RJ-45 cables
As past years, we will provide a hardware insurance (which is free of
cost for you) for all the hardware you will bring along.
I will send you a mail later about that (including the deadline) and for
further details about the event.
If you have any questions, please contact us at devrooms(a)fosdem.org
cheers

My apologies for not posting this sooner.
Let's use the Fosdem wiki page to gather all information of participants

Hi Dag
Sorry for being somewhat late ;)
This is the official confirmation that your request for a Developer Room
at FOSDEM 2007 has been accepted and booked.
The room at your disposal will be H.2214 (capacity is 100 seats),
- - Saturday: 14:00 -> 19:00
- - Sunday: 09:00 -> 18:00
Note that on Saturday, it is not possible to use the room before 14:00
as university courses are being held in all rooms until then.
I would advise starting your schedule at 14:15 as you most probably
won't be able to enter before 14:00.
For that reason, we will end at 19:00 on Saturday (instead of 18:00).
Please take care of having everyone out of the room for that time, as we
staff members have a lot of work to do on Saturday evening, so throwing
everyone out will be your job ;)
Wireless network will be provided in each DevRoom.
For details about location and accommodation, consult our website:
http://fosdem.org
It's still being worked on so make sure to check back later as we will
provide further details.
This year we shall provide very detailed information about all the talks
that will be held in the DevRooms, so I would kindly ask you to provide
us with the following information:
- - the name of your project
- - a short and longer description of your project
- - website URL and optionally related URLs
- - the full schedule of the talks and activities that will take place in
your DevRoom with, for each talk:
- start time, end time (obviously ;))
- the name(s) of the speaker(s)
- a few words about the speaker(s), can even be a full bio (*)
- optionally, a photo of the speaker
- optionally, one or more URLs about the topic
(*) I know it's a lot of work, but just delegate it to the speakers ;)
All that content will be encoded by us and published on the FOSDEM
website schedule.
The DevRoom schedules will also be published in a shorter form in the
booklet we distribute to every visitor at the entrance.
If you have any question, please do contact us at devrooms(a)fosdem.org
cheers

Not to pick nits, but according to the hosts manpage, you have your
aliases
and FQDN's backwards:
For each host a single line should be present with the following
information:
IP_address canonical_hostname aliases
And it is /etc/nsswitch.conf that determines the order of search. By
default
this is files (e.g. /etc/hosts) then dns, and there may be others like
ldap
or nis depending on how you set up the machine.
