mixed repos

Hello, Does anybody knows a way to keep updated mixed repositories without mixing them ? For Example i have 3 repos in my desktop centos system , Centos repos handled by up2date Dag repo handled by apt and Karan repo handled by yum. I need packages from each repo but i don't want the secondary repos to mess my system so i never update with these repos. is there a way each tool (up2date, yum, apt) to update only the packages that came from that repo and not the whole system ? for example to update dag packages i use apt-get install and the names of dag repos packages in my system but it's kind of complicated to track all these packages one by one. I believe that if this mater resolved and we can have multiple repos and more apps than centos can compete even ubuntu.

Taring up the OS - how to exclude directories

From the howto: http://www.faqs.org/docs/securing/chap29sec305.html I got some ideas to help me to tar up the OS. I had already been shown how to wrap it into SSH to deposit the tar file on another system, so I tried the following: tar cpvzf - -C / --exclude home --exclude media --exclude mnt --exclude proc --exclude */lost+found | ssh root(a)10.0.0.2 "cat>backup-060907.tgz" But, whereas the howto is talking about --exclude dealing with files, the Centos Man on tar is saying that it applies to files. So what is wrong? I know the SSH stuff is correct as when I put in something like ls I get a file with result of the ls. Also I had done this without the excludes and of course it died slowing when it got to /media/cdrom :(

Yum update frozen

Hello, about one hour ago, I did a "yum update" on a remote centos 4.3 server. centos server cd production release criteria?

May we know the ETA for it on the mirrors please? If it will be quite awhile, may we know more about how it is produced and any release critera you have for it please? I had been chasing a potential memory leak until "sar -r", had revealed that all the "mysteriously used" memory was actually being taken up by the kernel data cache. It is chewing up all unused memory on the system slowly over time, which is a concern. Various sources have pointed me towards making modification in the /proc/sys/vm file-system although kernel documentation on the files within doesn't seem to really fit what I'm trying to do. Any way to set the kbcached buffer to be flushed either at a specified time interval or once it hits a certain size would be a great help. Thoughts anyone? Thanks, Justin Randall

GNOME_DISABLE_CRASH_DIALOG in centos 4

Where would I set the GNOME_DISABLE_CRASH_DIALOG environment variable so any program running will have this set. Not just my shell script that runs when I login. I need this set so when nautilus crashes (sometimes) I dont see the crash report. Jerry
