Bulletin Board for CentOS

Hello, I'm looking for a simple web-based forum for Centos 3.x or 4.x. I've used phpBB before, it was a sysadmin's nightmare :-( This time I want something - that doesn't need a security patch every other week - that ships in a nice RPM so I can patch/upgrade easily Any suggestions, free or commercial? ssh session output stalls

Hello, Is anyone else having problems with the ssh session output stalling when ssh'd to another system and the command is running via sudo and a pager is being used (e.g., more)? Too highly reproducible :( to date, all known occurrences have involved Centos 4.3 servers; makes no difference whether client is RHEL WS 4.3, Centos 4.3 or FC 5 or WinDoze. Makes no difference if terminal emulator is Gnome's stock issue or Konsole or Putty. Not sure about SecureCRT. Sometimes one can break loose the logjam; if so: . terminal prompts are stacked left to right vs. vertically . keyboard input is not echo'd . in this event, terminal clear/reset doesn't end if so. /bin/tar bug

It like we may have a bug in tar that ships with Centos. It looks like -o is mapped to --same-owner. DRBD module for latest kernel

Will there be a matching DRBD kernel module package for the latest kernel that is in the updates repository? The kernel version in the updates is: kernel-smp-2.6.9-34.0.1.EL.i686.rpm but I don't see a matching DRBD module in updates. Thanks, Steve

How do you set the refresh frequency for the X server?

During the kickstart installation of the CentOS 4.3 systems I recently built, anaconda probed for the video card (Intel 945) and monitor (NEC MultiSync 2070NX). The optimal setting for this monitor is 1600x1200 @ 60Hz. The X server is configured to use 1600x1200, but it is using a higher refresh rate, which causes the monitor to display an error message, and it also locks you out of the on-screen- menu. How do you translate a 60Hz refresh frequency into the appropriate horizontal sync and vertical refresh frequencies in the xorg.conf file? I can't find anything to change in system-config- display. Logos on free distribution presentation

Hello, I want to present CentOS in my LUG. I am thinking in make a translation (to Spanish) of some of the topics on the CentOS official web site (like About, Purpose, ...), some of the wiki (for the history), the Johnny's article on the linux-magazine's issue#65, and the statistics posted by Johnny some time ago. References will be included too. Now get 2 questions for you guys: 1. Would I use the CentOS logo for this, just to put it on the very top of the document?. This document will be totally free and will be archived in the LUG classroom for other peoples and students to read it and for freely distribution of it too, after the presentation. Just a little of promotion to the very great job. 2. If so, where would I download an appropriate one? I've read the "Are there any requirements on the use of CentOS Logos and artwork?" post in the web site faq section and want to be sure that what I'm doing goes in the right way. I will appreciate any suggestion and topics that you think I would add to the presentation. My Best Regards, Al.

clock goes MUCH faster than normal on dual-core (solution)

Just in case anyone else gets bitten, I noticed that a bunch of my dual core opteron machines were losing time sync pretty fast (gaining a few days every few days...heh). I searched back on the list and found some messages about passing a clock parameter in grub.conf. The following worked for me: clock=pmtmr These are systems using the Supermicro H8SLL-i boards and Opteron 175-185 cpus and running CentOS 4.3. Cheers,

CentOS-4.4 - Some major changes on the way

I would like to take the time to inform people that CentOS-4.4 will contain some major changes. The changes are significant enough that I would like to spell out some of them now, probably at least a month before the release of the upstream "EL4 update 4" is released. The Mozilla Suite (Browser, Mail, Chat clients) will be replaced by SeaMonkey. This is due to Mozilla's change in policy and support for older versions. The Firefox 1.0.x (currently 1.0.8) web browser will be replaced by Firefox 1.5.x (currently 1.5.0.3). We currently have a version of Firefox 1.5.x in the CentOSPlus repo. That version will be replaced by the EL4 version after some more testing ... and the new version will be rolled into CentOS-4.4 in the Base repository when CentOS-4.4 is released. The Thunderbird 1.0.x (currently 1.0.8) will be upgraded to Thunderbird 1.5.x (currently 1.5.0.2). The OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 will be replaced by OpenOffice 1.1.5. This allows better sharing of files between OpenOffice.org 2.0 and CentOS clients. ------------------------------- All these changes will be implemented upstream and rolled out in the released source code, so they will be incorporated into CentOS as well. We will fully test these packages prior to release of the CentOS-4.4 ISOs, however these changes are fairly substantial. I would also like to remind people who are more cautious that CentOS has a vault that will contain CentOS-4.3 after we shift the main mirrors to CentOS-4.4. The vault is available at: http://vault.centos.org/ I am not suggesting that people don't upgrade (as security updates would require one to maintain the current version), but I am just providing information so that if the updates break something, you can easily get back to a known previous version. We have not had any problems so far with the new packages in our testing, and they will be deemed STABLE by upstream when they are released, however these changes are by far the most significant since the release of CentOS-4 and I think they deserve some special attention.
