device-mapper multipath

I am attempting to get multipath working with device-mapper (CentOS 4.2 and 4.3). It works on EVERY install of mine from RH (also v4.2, 4.3), but the same multipath.conf imported to all my installs of CentOS do not work. Note that I have tested a working 4.2 configuration file from RH on CentOS 4.2 and a working 4.3 configuration (it changed slightly) on CentOS 4.3. Neither worked. Our production systems are RH 4.2 so the 4.2 configuration file is below. Configuration: Promise vTrak 300i iSCSI iscsi-initiator-utils from 4.2/4.3 device-mapper-multipath from 4.2/4.3 Procedure: 1. Configure iscsi.conf and multipath.conf 2. Start iscsi: service iscsi start 3. Start multipath: service multipathd start 4. Make sure no stale paths exist: multipath -F 5. That is, according to the multipath wiki, the "target length in 512-bytes blocks" for the multipath device. The one that does not work is smaller by a factor of 1063 (close to 1024, maybe it is using different units?) Has anyone run into any issue of this sort?

Update of CentOS 4.0 to 4.3

I need to update a CentOS 4.0 system to CentOS 4.3. In my opinion, I should start out with a "yum update yum centos-yumconf" and then follow that with a "yum update". Does anyone have any other input as to what other packages might be needed to be updated with yum and centos-yumconf before the mass upgrade? Thanks, Barry

apache permission problems

Well i finally got CentOS 4.3 booting, apache is installed, and im trying to setup some virutal hosts, i want the main site to be my default virtual host (which i had on my gentoo server) but i keep getting permission denied errors: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. and in the logs i get: (13)Permission denied: access to /favicon.ico denied (13)Permission denied: access to /favicon.ico denied (13)Permission denied: access to / denied i have even tried chmod 777 on the /home/user/public_html dir and that still didnt resovle the issue. What user do the files have to be owned by? i would assume the user, but i have also tried apache:apache and root:root, since the original htdocs dir was owned by root:root. everything ive tried just gives me the same permission denied error. here is my vhosts.conf file (i created it under conf.d) NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster(a)domain.com ServerName domain.com ServerAlias www.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/nick/public_html ErrorLog /home/nick/logs/error_log CustomLog /home/nick/logs/access_log combined <Directory "/home/nick/public_html"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> It DID work with the default install, i got the default page, but for some reason when i switch to virtual hosts i started getting denied. horde updates and config files

Horde RPMs got updated last night. However, the way configuration files were handled wasn't probably the best. Building external modules on 4.3

I'm trying to build the zaptel (v1.2.5) modules on a 4.2 machine upgraded to 4.3, but running into a kernel version problem. The kernel I'm running is 2.6.9-34.ELsmp and I have the kernel-devel-2.6.9-34 RPM installed. I believe the problem is that the modules are being built as if for the uniprocessor kernel (the default for kernel-devel?) leading to the error: zaptel: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module when I try to load the module. I *think* I probably need to grab the kernel sources, take the config file for the SMP kernel from that and drop it into kernel-devel, edit the kernel-devel top-level makefile to get the version name correct and then rebuild the kernel config to get the right kernel version set in the zaptel modules. Is that correct, or have I missed something obvious? James

What's the correct syntax for something like the following: yum check-update --disablerepo=dag ivazquez Extras Misc this runs "dead" and doesn't do a check-update. Use kommas? Multiple LUN support

Hi all... I have a scsi Tape library. Centos only sees the tape drive portion of the library. I need to enable Multiple LUN support to get the library and tape drive recognized. I am looking for some help enabling multiple lun support in Centos 4. I had a procedure on how to do this in the 2.4 kernel but it doesn't seem to work in the 2.6. Any help would be appreciated. Config: Standard intel server board. p4 processor (3) 3-ware controllers Lsi Logic u320 scsi card External SCSI tape library. Worked before on a Whitebox linux 2.4 kernel, just added: options scsi_mod "max_scsi_luns=16" to /etc/modules.conf and rebuilt the initrd image, then reboot. All worked fine. But Whitebox is crap and was giving me probs and also want everything standardized on CentOS! Thanks!

Robust Search Solution (with CentOS 4.3)

I've got about 10,000 docs I'd like to devise a search/index for. I found a perl script called Perlfect that can do that on an old P3 but at the astronomical time of 7 hours. Another script(cgi/perl) at hotscripts can do the same but allows the "rm -rf /" exploit. DoH!? Is there anything perl/flatfile that can search/index faster? This is a nice job for an aging P3 in the corner so php/MySQL is not an option.
