CentOS FastTrack repository

The upstream provider has started a new channel called fastrack. It is detailed here (see the whole thread): https://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2006-April/msg00001.html CentOS will also build the fastrack SRPMS. We have created separate repositories in CentOS-3 and CentOS-4 called fasttrack. (I know the spelling is different, that is by design. We don't want to use the name of the upstream provider's program. Same as our use of CSGFS for Cluster Suite / Global File System, and not the upstream acronyms.) The purpose of the CentOS-FastTrack repo is to provide Bugfix and Enhancement updates for people who choose to do these updates BETWEEN the point releases. For example, there are currently 7 SRPMS that have been built for the CentOS-4 fasttrack repo ... they are here: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/fasttrack/SRPMS/ These changes (or maybe newer ones for those packages) will be rolled into the CentOS-4.4 when the time comes. What fasttrack will do is level out the update cycle for those who want to do bugfix and enhancement updates that way ... the packages are fully tested and part of the CentOS tree. If you want to get the latest bugfix and enhancement updates as soon as they are available, you can use the fasttrack repo. If you want your bugfix and enhancements to happen exactly as they do now (at point release time), don't use the fasttrack repo. Security updates will continue to happen as they do now. ------------------ To enable the fasttrack repo for CentOS-4, save this .repo file: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/fasttrack/CentOS-fasttrack.repo to your /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory. ---------------- To enable fasttrack for CentOS-3, you will need to add an entry in your /etc/yum.conf file. CentOS-3.7 is in progress; therefore, the CentOS-3 fasttrack repo is currently not populated. Dovecot 1.0.something rpm for CentOS?

Is anyone using successfully a specific rpm of Dovecot 1.0.something? There's nothing on dag and a few on rpmfind (for Fedora Core), but I don't know if they'd work. The one coming with Centos 4 (0.99.11) has quite a few bugs and I'd like to put an upgrade on top of it. ADP94XX Driver

Trying to install on IBM eseries with Adaptec 9405 SAS. Fail to install / recognized SAS. Download from IBM RHE4 driver ... unfortunately did not help. Clarification Needed: DAG vs. rpmforge.

Dag in the thread about kvirc, I had pointed to dries repo, based on a list of repos I use *now*, that replaced your repo with rpmforge. This based on an instruction earlier that I should use rpmforge instead. So when I run my "yum --enablerepo=\* list...", it did not show your repo contents. Should I be including *both* rpmforge and dag? TIA Bill

3ware 9550SX and CentOS

I'm getting a couple of systems that are arriving with the new 3ware 9550sx controller. Does anyone know when this will be natively supported by CentOS? Has anyone built an RPM of the driver/module for this new controller?

compat-gcc-32-c++-3.2.3-47.3 and 3.3.2 support

Hi all, 4.3/rh release is shipping compat-gcc-32-c++-3.2.3-47.3 which i can see includes 3.2.3 & 3.3.4 support but if i need support for 3.3.2 libstdc++ what should i do? I've searched for compat pkgs and no one has 3.3.3 support, im wondering if installing 3.3.2 gcc tools from gnu sources is a good idea or check if 3.3.2 rpm for this exists. Is that compat-* pkgs something related to RH only? TIA Jose

latest 4.2 to 4.3 upgrade and distribution by CentOS team

greetings! it appeared to me that previous upgrades were strained by sheer amount and size of the update as well as the eagerness of the CentOS userbase to get upgraded... this last one, well... it went so smooth that i believe many may have missed it happening so to speak :-) initially having been a large Galacticom aka Worldgroup BBS operator (remember those?) and then an ISP for going on 2 decades i sincerely appreciate the smoothness of the last batch of upgrades and the distribution of such around the world... it appeared almost effortless from this side... :-) CentOS team, great job! and keep up the awesome work! ummm, do you have any statistics to share that show how much data was moved around and by how many internal servers and external clients? again, way to go! - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net

irqbalance is dead, can not shutdown

After updating to centos 4.3, I notice a failure in terminating irqbalance whenever i shutdown the system. Checking the services after the system reboot i see the error in irqbalance: "irqbalance dead but subsys locked" Can anyone tell me what irqbalance is and if it safe to disable it ? Why i dont see it in centos 4.2? Thanks in advance. Using long usernames with dots in LDAP

Hi, I have configured openldap on CentOS 4.3, all my users are in ldap. I also configure idx-smbtools for managing the users. The test I'm doing is creating long usernames like this: this.is.avery.long.username All is working fine: sendmail, dovecot, idx-smbldap-tools, ceti-poppassd, chown My question is, I'm breaking some standards?
