Username with dots

Hi, There is a way to allow usernames with dots like firstname.lastname. On Red hat 7.3 it was possible, but after Fedora 1 it was blocked. How this could be changed? Thanks, -- Cleber P. de Souza

Virtual consoles 2 and 3 hard blank screens. and others blank also There is no other info on the main screen other than initialie hardware loading default keymap setting hostname Checking root filesystem System just hangs.... All, I have a new install. software RAID-1. everything installed normal (2 - 40 GIG IDE drives) After install, reboot and the box starts the graphic boot, then hangs on "setting hostname". After a few minutes it drops out of graphic install and the last thing on the screen is "Checking root filesystem". It then sets there FOREVER. Any ideas? I have already re-installed from scatch and get the exact same thing. Jerry

Samba Error when using gedit

Hey dudes, I've got a centOS 4.2 (clean reinstall) workstation and a Samba mount in my home directory where "c:\uploads" is a XP Home directory mounted as ~\uploads in my home directory. The file 'letter9feb.txt' exists in 'c:\uploads\fd\complaint' which i created from the smith box. I cannot save the 'letter9feb.txt' as it says its being used. Error "Generic error" while copying "/home/smith/.../letter9feb.txt". (When trying to use Nautilus) Could not save the file "/home/smith/uploads/fd/complaint/letter9feb.txt". Could not create a backup file. Kinda CentOS related so bear with me. :) We have little legacy perl app on an old RH 7.3 box I'm trying to migrate over to a CentOS 4 system. Some information the app uses is in Berkley DB format [root@korma data]# file *.db applic.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) cables.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) connector.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) equipment.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) hood.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) interface.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) wire.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) If I run the following Perl test script ... #!/usr/bin/perl # # if ($ARGV[0] eq "") { print "\n * * give me a DBM file name to dump (no DBM extension) * *\n"; exit; } dbmopen (%dumpfile, $ARGV[0], 0400) || die "Can't open DB file!" ; foreach $line (sort keys %dumpfile) { print <<END1; $line - $dumpfile{$line} END1 } dbmclose (%dumpfile); Running that against any of the BDB files on the old RH 7.3 system dumps the file's data successfully. Copy everything over to the CentOS system [root@willspc data]# file *.db applic.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) cables.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) connector.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) equipment.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) hood.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) interface.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) wire.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) Run the script again, e.g... [root@willspc data]# ./dump.pl cables [root@willspc data]# file cables* cables: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 7, native byte-order) cables.db: Berkeley DB (Hash, version 5, native byte-order) And it dumps a new BDB with version 7, no other output. Stracing the process shows it's using DB_File.pm I'm a bit stumped as to what to try next. Will.

Hi Anyone know of there is an rpm available for this? Trying to build a loadbalancer from the LVS project for a webserver farm and struggling with ipvsadm <http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/software/kernel-2.6/ipvsadm-1.24-6.src.rpm> on 4.2 thanks

ERROR Module IPTABLES P2P ->ipt_p2p.ko with CENTOS4.2

Dear Friends, I compiled with secessfull module P2P to iptables on CENTOS 4.2, but after the Centos load ipt_p2p.ko the kernel PANIC. Below I show follow steps for compile. # tar -zxpvf iptables-p2p-0.3.0a.tar.gz # rpm -ivh iptables-1.2.11-3.1.RHEL4.scr.rpm # cp -a /usr/src/iptables/include/* /usr/include # cp /usr/src/iptables-p2p-0.3.0a/common/* /usr/include Before compilation I had to correct sources a little. Entry server hardware

Hello, I would like some advice on a SATA RAID controller that is able to work in a 32 bit/33mhz PCI slot. I have been looking for a while but all I can find is 64 bit cards that cost over $300. I just need it to mirror 2 drives, and of course work in Centos 4.2. I am not looking for RAID 5 or anything like that. All the cards I find that would do this are fakeraid. Also, has anyone used the SATA Iomega Rev drive in Centos 4.2? Mine does not show up but it works on a default load of Suse 9.3...? Any help would be great.
