Question about updates again

Presumably, the CentOS 4.3 update is not far away. I have CentOS on several servers now and am doing automatic updates. What can I excpect when the actual update gets pushed? Is there an inclrease in the number of patches? Does it happen all in one day? And if so, how much notice do I have? Although I asked on the list a while back, I got some answers that implied said that at update time, bug fix patches are released and at other times only security patches. But I also got a couple of answers that implied that the quarterly update was just a CD that brought the distro up to date with the already issued patches. Sorry to keep beating on this issue, but I want to avoid surprises. Thanks, Steve

How can I disable sound?

I usually don't setup any GUI on my Linux systems. Yesterday I installed with X and Gnome on a spare system for some testing and hit a problem. Right after login the system freezes. The system froze already earlier when I opted to test the sound card on the Welcome screen and when I login with the alternative login choice xterm and shut down it freezes when "saving mixer settings". So, I suspect there's some problem with the onboard sound or with the driver that gets used from X. How's the best way to cope with this? I don't really need sound, how to disable (short of disabling it on the mainboard)? I already commented out the alsactl stuff in modprobe.conf, but this doesn't change anything and the snd_* modules still get loaded. According to modprobe it thinks it's Intel 8x0 while it is an nforce2 chipset. Well, this may be okay for the kernel, I don't know. Using Webalizer in Webmin

My apologies ahead of time if im off topic for this list. but hopefully someone knows a simple solution. I have two domains. lordsofhorde.com and dragunsrealm.ca In apache I have virtual hosts setup for these domains with a separate *access_log file in the vhost settings for each domain. So each domain is generating its own log file. I use webalizer within webmin to check out the excellent graphical reports of my webserver logs. I have each logfile setup in webalizer so that I have two different reports for each domain. For the most part it works, I do get two completely separate reports between the two domains. However, when I look at the top of the report for both log files it says dragunsrealm.ca at the top. Anyone know how I can make it so webalizer reflects the domain of the logfile/report im looking at? All the webalizer reports say dragunsrealm.ca at the top and I would like for webalizer to differentiate each domain depending on the log report im looking at instead of them all saying dragunsrealm.ca Any ideas? SATA RAID Controller Support?

Greetings, I just got new Dell PowerEdge SC1420 and a 6 channel SATA RAID controller card (Adaptec 2610SA from Dell also) When I attempt to install CentOS 4.2, it doesnt find the RAID 1 mirror I set up. (2 X 160Gig drives) It doesnt find any hard drives at all. Does anyone have anything to suggest here? Thanks Ryan

KDE panel configuration

I am running CentOS 4.2 with KDE 3.5.1 from kde-redhat.org. I am not able to configure the panels: control center -> desktop -> panels comes up, but is empty. Only the frame and the buttons on the bottom show. KDE 3.5.1 on Kubuntu does not have that problem. httpd permissions question

I'm using yum-pull for creating a local yum repo. I have a non-root user that runs the script and the files are stored in that user's home directory. I'm trying to make that directory available with httpd. The user owns all the files and subdirs and the rights on all the files is: -rw-r--r-- I added this to the bottom of httpd.conf and restarted httpd. Alias /repomirror /home/user1/YumRepo <Directory /home/user1/YumRepo> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow,deny #Allow from 172.16 127.0.0.1 #Deny from all </Directory> When I try to access http://servername/repomirror I get a 403 permission denied. What permissions need to be set? Can I publish the directory this way? Thanks, James
