Build Raid 1 in a installed system

Hi. I have a Centos 4.2 installed but the Raid 1 configuration wasn't set during the installation process. How could I build the Raid 1 after the system has been installed? Thanks. -- Cleber P. de Souza

Screwed up my iptables firewall

I have a server that I screwed up iptables on. Now when the server restarts it locks up trying to apply the firewall rules. How can I remove the rules (set to all ACCEPT) in a linux rescue mode or knoppix or other way of getting to the file system? Any suggestions how to fix this? Thanks, James

Found this in the named portion of my system log this morning. Any clue to what the dispatch code is? dispatch 0x9c21670: shutting down due to TCP receive error: connection reset: 1 Time(s) Still up and running. Perhaps an attack attempt? -- Snowman

installed freenx server on CentOS 4 server installed nxclient from nomachine.com on workstation so far so good. following directions from web site... http://fedoranews.org/contributors/rick_stout/freenx/ where I tried both /etc/nxserver/client/client.id_dsa.key and /var/lib/nxserver/home/.ssh/client.id_dsa.key copied them to my workstation and then used the 'import' function in nxclient to import the keys and try to connect and always get the following detail when I failed to connect... NX> 203 NXSSH running with pid: 21106 NX> 285 Enabling check on switch command NX> 285 Enabling skip of SSH config files NX> 200 Connected to address: 192.168.2.1 on port: 22 NX> 202 Authenticating user: nx NX> 208 Using auth method: publickey NX> 204 Authentication failed. what's the trick - there is obviously something very important missing from the web page. New RPM signing key?

The newest tetex RPMs in the CentOS 4.2 updates tree seem to be signed by a new key. Can someone please point me to the relevant information? error: <directory>/tetex-latex-2.0.2-22.EL4.7.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID 443e1821 Thanks. Dave Thompson UW-Madison

Centos kernel c headers [dnk]

Good day -- I am having a go at installing VMware on my centos 4.2 machine. I am going through the configuration script and I am getting to the part where I need the c headers for my kernel. What package do I need to install to make these available, and where are they installed to? I have been searching for this with little luck. Thanks in advance. Dustin

upgrading 3.6->4

greetings - I'm trying to upgrade a centos 3.6 box to version 4. I tried to do an upgrade using yum but that failed and now the Cd installer is not letting me upgrade either. Here's what I did: following the howto, I tried to do the upgrade using yum. I installed the GPG key and upgraded the centos-release and the centos-yumconf packages. When I tried to upgrade yum package I ran into dependency problems. I downloaded and reinstalled the version 3.6 centos-release rpm. Then I downloaded and burned the CDs. I boot from the CD but I don't see an option to upgrade. I get to the installer screen that asks for the type of installation (desktop, server, workstation etc) but I see no option to perform an upgrade. Is the upgrade option hidden somewhere? did the installer not detect my centos 3.6 system? When I tried the yum upgrade, did I do something to make the installer think I have centos 4 installed (like the GPG key)? Any help is appreciated! cheers Mike

Forcing CentOS to load Ethernet Card

Hi All, I changed ethernet card, and chose to retain the config for the previous one, and now when booting, get a mac address is different igonoring, msg or something to that effect, and upon booted, doing a ifconfig shows nothing for the new card. What cmd do I issue, to make the OS see the new card? Cheers. Mark Sargent.

HP NetServer LC2000r and LH6000r install woes

hello folks! i've got four HP NetServers, two LC2000r and two LH6000r. the CentOS 4.2 ServerCD can't see hard drives on any of them. each machine has a HP NetRAID controller; the LC2000rs have a NetRAID-1Si and the LH6000rs have an Integrated NetRAID. each controller has three 9GB drives, two mirrored and one hotspare. each machine boots ok (the LC2000rs need "linux noacpi" or they complain about being in a weird power management state and panic), each loads the megaraid driver, but none of them can see any volumes. fixes i have already tried: 1) on the LH6000rs i have disabled "Smart IRQ" reallocation; on the LC2000rs i have disabled "Reserve PCI Bus Numbers" as described in this document: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HP-HOWTO/hp-hardware.html#AEN792 these fixes have made the megaraid driver stop complaining about IRQ conflicts or routing errors. 2) i have tried switching each NetRAID controller from I20 to "Mass Storage" mode; no change. 3) i have tried manually adding the i2o_block driver; no change. has anyone encountered similar problems with this hardware? better yet, has anyone resolved them? any other ideas? do i need to do anything to the logical volumes on the NetRAIDs other than create and initialize them? i'm currently downloading the full CentOS install media, in case this is some sort of deficiency in the ServerCD. thanks, steve --- If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction. - Fabian, Twelfth Night, III,v
