Ext3 filesystem access after downgrade from v4.2 to v3.6

I need to downgrade a system from Centos x4.2 to v3.6 (x86) due to performance problems with Arkeia Network Backup and AIT-4 tape drives. The backup database is stored on a v4.2 created ext3 partition. When accessing this partition after the downgrade, Centos complains on boot that fsck.ext3: Filesystem has unsupported feature(s) (/dev/sda5) *fsck: Get a newer version of e2fsck! [fail] If I comment the partition out of /etc/fstab the machine boots as normal and I can manually mount the filesystem. My questions are: If I use the v4.2 ext3 filesystem on v3.6 I am likely to corrupt the data? And what is the best way fix this problem? Do as it says and try and upgrade e2fsck or is there a better fix? Thanks Dean.

Self-signed certificates

Hello, I am trying to create a self-signed certificate for a sub-domain. Creating the certificate is not the problem. I used cacert.org to complete it. When I made the certificate, it was for the sub-domain but the certificate for the top-level domain is the certificate that appears. In the <VirtualHost> section for the sub-domain, I have pointed to the sub-domain key: SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key/subdomain.key. This is how I made the key: openssl req -nodes -keyout private.key -out subdomain.key Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Arguments to continue using it

Hello, This afternoon I received the new that my institution, in the main direction, is planning (for political reasons, I don't know which one??) migrate to Debian. I have a hotted conversation with my boss cause I've been working on CentOS during near a year and half. I explained it that both distros just implement the protocols that are standards, that could be installed a web server in a Debian Box or in a CentOS Box, both can use apache and generally the service will be stable in both, without a lot of differences. Also that the use of each one is indifferent, just a matter of user's comfort and that means, it will take a long time to change to other, because not only will be the time in planning services, but the time in learn a new way of do it too. Note: if I said something wrong correct me please. The arguments they gave to me were, what happen if redhat close the base packages, they don't have to release them, but just to the buyer, and we can't buy the distro, there are others distros like debian that is totally free, and without dependencies of proprietary industry. I really struggle a little more to defend, CentOS and my comfort on it ;) , but have not solids arguments about that issue, I really never worried about it. Would some of you explain me this issue, or point me somewhere to read?. I'll really appreciate that.

Any recommendations for log servers? Mostly for firewall activity but I'd like to use one for squid also if one is available.

Specify sending machine from mailx command line?

When using "mail" (from the mailx package) to send mail from the command line, can I specify the sending system name? I want to mail the occasional status message to my personal e-mail account from a server machine. Something like this: echo "New IP address: $new_ip_address" | \ mail -s "DHCP - $interface addr change" myname(a)myisp.com When I attempt to send mail from machine server.mydomain.lan my ISP sees incoming mail from "localhost.mydomain.lan [127.0.0.1]" and bounces it as being blacklisted. Is there a way to submit an acceptable name to my ISP's mail server from command line e-mail? Thanks.
