su, context(selinux?) 2nd prompt

With a recent update of CentOS4, su's behavior has changed, in that after prompting for password, also prompts for (selinux?) context. I'm seeing something like: $ su Password: Your default context is root:system_r:unconfined_t. Do you want to choose a different one? [n] kde's kdesu barfs on this second prompt. Any way to disable this second prompt? -- Rex

X11 build

Jim, Not really, the couple pieces of hardware that I have actually work fine with centos 4.2 - however - when I then want to connect something out of the ordinary like a monitor that does 1366x768 it is not supported in the current driver. My other monitor problem was the driver freezing up. New card will take care of that. Thanks, Jerry

X11 build

Morning... I have a package that I think wants to compile against the X11 source tree. http://openchrome.org - its a snapshot from there.... Anyway the command it tells me to run is: xmkmf /usr/src/xc make make install This is to build a updated X graphics driver... However when I do this I get errors as there is not /usr/src/xc (no surprise) I did then "up2date xorg-x11-sdk" however now I dont know where the "xc" directory might be. Have I not done the right steps yet? Thanks for any suggestions. Jerry

RFE: centos-announce subject line rearrange

hi, it's a nice thing that we've a centos-announce list, but currently the subject of this mails on this list has very long lines. eg: ----------------------------------------- [CentOS-announce] CESA-2006:0160 Moderate CentOS 3 i386 tetex - security update [CentOS-announce] CESA-2006:0140 Important CentOS 3 ia64 kernel - security update ----------------------------------------- which means 1280x1024 sreen in mozilla the mailer's preview line is not wide enough to show thre real important part of the mail ie. the name of the package which is updated. wouldn't be it possible to shorten somehow the subject line? solutions: - drop the name of the list (ie: [CentOS-announce] ) - drop the CESA reference number (ie: CESA-2006:0160 ) - or simple rearrange the subject eg into: [CentOS-announce] CentOS 3 ia64 kernel - CESA-2006:0140 Important security update for me it's totaly inrelevant the solution just move the package name somehow left. yours. just my 2c. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

Whither LM87 sensor driver?

From my reading of the Linux Kernel mailing list, it seems that the LM87 sensor driver made it into kernel 2.6.8. Anyone know why it is not present in the RHEL4/Centos4.2 current kernel? Thanks.

Tyan 2895 in production?

I stand to "inherit" some of these motherboards from another project. They seem like a nice dual socket 940 board that also supports dual core opterons, but I don't have any personal experience with them. Anyone using them in production w/CentOS 4.2? Best regards,

mplayer compile on x86_64

All I am trying to get mplayer going on x86_64. I used the following command ./configure --with-x11libdir=/usr/X11R6/lib64 --with-codecsdir=/usr/local/lib/codecs make make install It erros with the requested audio codec is not found. I have alsa devel package installed... Does anyone have mplayer running on x86_64 and wish to share the compile instructions? Thanks, Jerry
