OT clamav-milter

I OT'd this since it is supplied by dag and not centos but running on centos 3.5 # service clamav-milter start Starting Clamav Milter Daemon: clamav-milter: --timeout must not be given if --external is not given I updated last week and didn't have any problems. I did restart the system today and for some reason cannot get clamav-milter to start ;-( Any hints - afaik - nothing changed... # cat /etc/sysconfig/clamav-milter ### Simple config file for clamav-milter, you should ### read the documentation and tweak it as you wish. CLAMAV_FLAGS=" --config-file=/etc/clamd.conf --max-children=10 --force-scan --quiet --dont-log-clean --noreject -obl local:/var/run/clamav/clamav-milter.sock " Craig

booting from a +2TB disk

I have been trying to install CentOS 4.1 on a new server today. The installation went fine but the system doesn't boot. It doesn't even get to the Grub screen. The system has a 3ware 9500 series controller and 12 250GB SATA disks which are configured for RAID5 with one hot spare. I searched on the web and noticed that this is a Grub (and Lilo) limitation. Is there any way around it other than setting up a smaller RAID device? -akop

You need to install mysql-server. Sounds like mysql is installed which is the client but not the server. Look in /etc/init.d and see if mysqld exists. If it does, try to start it with /etc/init.d/mysqld start Until mysqld is started, mysql will not be able to talk to it. I just installed CentOS 3.5. Included in the install was mysql. When trying to start it using: service mysqld start. The system responds with mysqld not recpognized as a service. When trying to use /usr/bin/mysql I receive this error: ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2). A search of the system does not reveal mysql.sock. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any assistance. Ed

Is there an equivalent command or application to "sockstat" as in the BSD camp under CentOS? How about systat ? Thanks... -- Snowman

Incompatible Libraries

Fellow users, I'm running into some rather odd behavior trying to compile some software, and would like to know if there is maybe a fix or if I should revert back to a 32-bit version of Centos. I'm trying to compile NCAR Graphics, as well as some other weather related software on this machine which is running the Centos 4.1 x86-64 version. It's a dual Xeon processor. I've installed all the required rpms, i.e., xdevel, xaw, etc. The problem I'm seeing is during linking of the various packages, where I get messages of "skipping incompatible /usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw.so when searching for -lXaw". I see similar other messages when trying to link to -L X11, and so forth and so on. I've got the correct paths set in the makefiles, but not sure I understand why the libs are being shown as incompatible. If any of you have built ncarg on the x86-64 OS, I'd sure like to hear from you, and what you did to effect the compile. Thanks.. Sam -- Snowman
