Have a look at http://linux-ip.net/html/ether-bonding.html#ether-bonding-ha You can only use one link at a time. I have been thinking of trying to produce a list of superfluous packages that are installed with the minimal install. Has anyone already done this so I can simply paste a "yum remove <non-required-packages>" after a minimal install to achieve a true minimal install? Dean

umask and nautilus/gnome

Hi, Does anyone know how to set umask such that nautilus actually obeys it? I have umask 002 added to the end of .bashrc, and if I touch a file from a gnome terminal, I correctly get -rw-rw-r--. However if I right click in a nautilus window and "create document" then "empty file" I end up with -rw------ which is obviously going to be a royal pita for group working! -- Cheers, Tony

Hi Craig, By default there is a noauto in the fstab. I first tried removing the entry for the floppy from the fstab, and upon my next boot up the following was inserted at the end of my fstab file: /dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0 Are you suggesting I change this to the following? So, as you can see, the noauto is already in my fstab. Maybe I do not understand your solution properly. Mail[x] / Sendmail - CentOS 3

I'm upgrading some servers from rh7.3 -> CentOS 3 and have several scripts that use "mail" to relay messages to my mail server. Am I correct on the assumption that you now have to have sendmail running to use mail, where as previously you did not? Or am I missing something? It's been driving me crazy for couple days trying to figure out why "mail" works on 7.3 without sendmail running and will only work with sendmail running on CentOS 3. I'm guessing as part of a "secure install" you now need to use "client queue ruuner" part of sendmail? Sure liked the old way, anyway to revert? Just don't like to run an additional process for just a couple of emails a day, or I guess I could use a cron job to process emails.

Running a CentOS 4 server and have a few different Linux machines at home. One desktop is FC 3 and one is FC 4 and I have an old laptop running FC 1 (but I can update - just don't want to necessarily bother). I am running LDAP and have 'included' redhat/autofs.schema in the setup but have been too chicken to try to implement because I just have a bad feeling about this... If I automount my home directory from the LDAP server, am I gonna run into a mess with different versions of things from the different systems (i.e. GNOME settings/evolution/firefox). Is it gonna be much slower because my home directory is now gonna be an NFS mount and I have a 100BaseT connection to my home directory? Any other considerations? Craig

Mount floppy on startup?

On bootup, it seems CentOS automatically mounts the floppy drive to /media/floppy. Is there a way to stop this from happening, short of removing the floppy drive from the system (as I don't use it)? Thanks, Ash Christopher

IPTables not working?

Hello CentOS, I'm having a strange situation on one of my servers. I'm running CentOS with all the latest yum updates. It runs fine, but iptables does not seem to be 'consistently' dropping the packets from the IP's I've put a drop rule in for. When I do iptables -L I still see the rule in place: iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination RH-Firewall-1-INPUT all -- anywhere anywhere DROP all -- ip176-0.netcathost.com/24 anywhere With this rule in place and iptables running, I am now getting the blocked IP's showing up in my apache logs again. this used to work... has something changed? -- Best regards, Mickael mailto:mikelists@silverservers.com
