yum issues

I hve two different boxes. One runs the updates to vim jsut fine. the other throws --> Populating transaction set with selected packages. Trying other mirror. Error: failure: RPMS/sudo-1.6.7p5-30.1.1.i386.rpm from update: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try. They bypass my local http prxy. Where do my RPMs actually go, and is it different for Red Hat builds?

I'm trying to install themes for KDE. In doing so, I came across the following web site which seems to have the themes I want as RPMs: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/17/dept/3/idg/User+Interface_Desktop The theme I want is called "Thinkeramik", and it has the following versions, for various Red Hat builds: thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.el3.kde.i386.rpm RedHat EL 3 thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.el4.kde.i386.rpm RedHat EL 4 thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.fc2.kde.i386.rpm Fedora 2 thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.fc3.kde.i386.rpm Fedora 3 thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.fc4.kde.i386.rpm Fedora 4 thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.rh73.kde.i386.rpm RedHat 7.X thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.rh90.kde.i386.rpm RedHat 9 I've read on this list that CentOS is equal to Red Hat 9, or to Red Hat EL 4. So I'm not sure which download I should get, or which is better. But in any case, I tried both Red Hat 9 and Red Hat EL 4. In either case, when I click to download (in FireFox), I'm given the option to install, so I do, and I enter my root password. It all seems to go fine, without errors. If I go to the command prompt and query the existence of the RPM, it's there: [root@localhost dave]# rpm -q thinkeramik thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.rh90.kde Then I go to the KDE Theme Manager in the Control Center, and here's where I hit the wall. The theme "Thinkeramik" is not automatically listed as one of the themes, so I click to "Install New Theme...". But I have no idea where to look. The RPM has been isntalled... somewhere, but I have no idea what directory to look in. I looked on Google to try and figure out if there was an option with the rpm command to locate the files associated with the RPM package, but was unsuccessful. Where should I look for the theme related files that the RPM should have theoretically installed? Dave

Arial font missing for openoffice 1.9+

I am trying to run ooimpress for openoffice 1.9+ I have it installed and running but the powerpoint I loaded has an arial font selected and that font does not seem to be present in centos 4 . How can I put it there for openoffice to use.. THanks Jerry

64 bit hardware and filesystem size limit

We recently bought a 32-bit Xeon system with a 12-port 3Ware RAID card and a dozen 500GB drives. We wanted to create 4TB drive arrays; however, we soon discovered that there is about a 2.2TB drive array size limit on 32-bit hardware. Does that sound correct? Would replacing the 32-bit mobo/cpu with a 64-bit mobo/cpu allow us to use drive arrays larger than 2.2TB? Thanks.

KDE screensaver on Centos 4.1

The KDE screen savers will only blank out the screen though most of them test ok when you hit the test button in the Control Center. The Gnome screen savers work ok. My system has a Radeon 9200SE video card and I have a ViewSonic A70f monitor. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Help.I can't start with my new kernel.

Hello!Eveyone! I'm a new user to CentOS. I builded a new kernel(2.6.12) yesteray with these command: #make defconfig #make menuconfig #make #make modules #make modules_install #make install #reboot ... But,when I choose the new kernel,it stop with "kernel panic". When building the kernel,I choose ext3 with "y".My hard disk is IDE,so I choose the IDE support. I don't know what's wrong. I met the same problem on FC4.But,I can build a new kernel on Debian successfully,using these commands. CentOS 4.1 yum update just hangs

I can ping the box, but I cannot ssh to the box. I can not log into the console either.
