CentOS 4 and OpenOffice

Has anyone here replaced the openoffice.org packages with those that were distributed with FC3? It's either that for me or simply scrapping CentOS in favor of FC3 (or even FC1). I'm very surprised that I can find no reports regarding the impossibility of formatting multi-page spreadsheets to print properly.

I got this error when my server try to update using my own CentOS mirror.... I have downloaded this file from other mirrors....and nothing.... Can you help me? rebuilding anaconda for centos 4.0

Continuing the thread, if there's anyone out there who has successfully completed an anaconda rebuild (buildinstall & genhdlist), please let me know that it can be done, either privately or to the list. Having solved the kernel/loopback mount problem, I now have an anaconda that whose installer process dies at the point where it tries to install the first RPM. I have diffed the contents of the various file system images against the stock images, and I see nothing that would indicate a problem. Laptop issues

Hello CentOS, I'm trying to isolate a problem with a notebook. I've tried to install CentOS from CD - but once I get the start screen, I type 'enter' to begin installing. The installer starts to load but only gets as far as: running install running /sbin/loader That's it. Nothing beyond that... locks up solid. The equipment is ECS 736, P4 2.6Ghz /1024MB RAM, 40GB HDD. General question on QA from a Fedora Core fan

Apologies if this ends up a dup, but there seems to have been a problem with my original subscription. ------------------------------ Hello, I am currently using Fedora on most of my servers. It does pretty well. I do have occasional problems which seem to me to stem from poor QA. For example, /usr/bin/enable <queue> coming back with "Enable: I don't know what to do!" after a cups errata upgrade when I would try to re-enable a printer. The "-c#" (multiple copies) option to lpr not working for serial printers due to a bug in the "serial" backend. (But to which a patch is applied to fix the same problem in the parallel backend). Finding my first flaw in the OS when I try to check the CD media during the install. The media check always fails. (Yes, there are going to be bugs, but finding the first one before you even get the installation media checked looks really bad. And, yes, the ide=nodma workaround fixes it.) I was very hopeful about CentOS shielding me and my clients from silly stuff like this. However, looking at the RHEL source for the serial backend to cups, it looks as though the patch to make "-c#" work on it has not been applied to serial.c. And the media check still fails with CentOS unless I use "ide=nodma", just like with Fedora. This is disappointing. Now, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I *DO NOT* consider this to be the fault of CentOS, as I understand that the policy is to remain faithfully compatible to RHEL. But if I ask RH about this, I know that I will get an "oh so politically correct" answer. On the positive side, looking at the errata, it looks as though CentOS has drastically fewer notices than Fedora, and I assume that is because there really are more problems (security of otherwise) shaken out during testing. Obviously, not being forced to upgrade due to withdrawal of support with regards to security patches every 1.5 years is a plus. So I welcome comments. If I switch my clients from Fedora to CentOS, they don't have the latest and greatest (and, for example, I need OpenOffice 2.0 ASAP for one of my clients due to it's Access-like interface to PostgreSQL), but how much advantage am I really looking at with regards to stability? i.e. I know all the reasons that CentOS *should* be more rock solid stable. But is there a noticeable difference in reality? Thanks For Any Input. Sincerely, Steve Bergman

Booting CentOS with LILO?

Hello all! I would like to know if is possible to use LILO as the boot loader instead of the default GRUB. My question comes because I tried to run lilo command but the message "command not found" appear. It sounds like my only boot loader option in CentOS is GRUB ¿?. I found lilo.conf.anaconda, but not the lilo command. From already thanks. Regards, Juan P. Espino

fsckcheck

While working on getting software raid working, I was unable to shutdown CentOS normally. After a forced power shutdown, I noticed that my gnome background was missing and I could not change the background image or color. Trying to shutdown the server normally did not work either, it would just hang. I suspected that the file system was damaged and was not fixed automaticly on boot. I tried the old Red Hat trick of creating an empty file with the name "fsckcheck" in the root directory and then forcing a reboot of the server. This seems to fix the problem with the file system. RedHat Bugzilla

Does anyone here have access to the RedHat Bugzilla bug number 113233? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=113233 I get "You are not authorized to access bug #113233." which kind of makes it hard to know what they think they have fixed.
