Hi CentOS lovers, i have already sent this email to [www-devel] but still no answer. What i propose to the comunnity is the creation of a full featured forum. Mailing lists are fine, but one losses a lot of information, how-to's, advices, and so on. I currently am a network administrator / programmer /web programmer in europe and i point the lack of centralized site with information as something that is really needed. It is also an easy way to reach all the comunnity. I dont want to have the spotlight or become famous, but this is really needed. I can deply the forum (for instance, phpBB like) and host it in one of my web hosting companies. Just reply yes or no. Thks for the time of all. Best Regards Joao

Hi, I think the package arpwatch-2.1a11-7.E3.2.i386.rpm is missing in centos-3/3.1/updates. Or is it located somewhere else? The packages libpcap-0.7.2-7.E3.2.i386.rpm and tcpdump-3.7.2-7.E3.2.i386.rpm are present and they come from the same src.rpm Jan Kees

Hi Lance, sure i can do it. Lets start it even today! just send me a list of the moderators needed. The forum is for the community but obviously we MUST have moderators. The mantainers are my suggestion. and we must create the topics of the forum. i will browse some forums this afternoon and then post a basic structure of the topics. if anyone has some ideas of topics needed just reply. Re: resolving urls

Dominic, If you have two or more nameservers (as is normal), you would have two or more lines in resolv.conf: nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.1 nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.2 People usually have more than one nameserver because one might not be working at any moment. Rsynch question

resolving urls

Hello all, I have a clerk connect box running at my library and it is based on RH9. I am having a little trouble with resolving URLs. I have two nics in it. eth0 with an Internet connection and and eth1 which is my inhouse LAN. Now I can ping IPs on the Lan, and On the net but I can not ping URL's (www.yahoo.com) now I do have an entry in resolv.conf nameserver xxx.xxx.xx.xxx and this setup works the same on other Linux boxes some redhat some CentOS. cache flush command

That's yum, it will start downloading all the headers of the packages that are new (in your case about 1200) and scares the shit out of users by displaying all that :) I understand your reaction, the default behaviour should be less verbose. You understand that I cannot make a repository for each package :) If you're concerned about the few core packages that are replaced, there is a Yum patch in TaoLinux that allows to protect the base system by not replace Red Hat core packages by third party ones. I'm only doing that for tools like lftp, rsync and a few others. (Tools that have been drastically improved since the RHEL3 release and most people want to use anyway). But of course that is more a personal liking and especially if you have paid for Red Hat support that may not be what you want. Still since it can be done automatically, I think this logic should go into Yum instead of the overhead you get from maintaining a second repository.
