Thank you for the long awaited x86_64 port! Looking through the RedHat pages concerning their EL releases, I find that the ES and WS versions claim to support only 2 CPUs while the AS version supports, well, more. With the CentOS releases following the ES releases, can I assume that this too is limited to two CPUs? Is this a kernel issue or something else? Should I be thinking of loading a non-CentOS release on a quad Opteron box? Thanks, Bill

kernel update

My kernel was grabbed by the installer and properly isntalled..what threw me was tht only kernel utils was mentioned during the header download..:) William -- My "Foundation" verse: Isa 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. yum configuration files lost while/after updating ?

Hello centOS users, Today i've installed a fresh centos 3.1, and modified the [update] section of my/etc/yum.conf, to point on my own update repository. My update repository (3.1) contains exactly the same content that the official one. Update was successful but now /etc/yum.conf is missing :( Here it is what i've noticed during the update process: # cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 3.1 (final) #yum update [...] warning: /etc/yum.conf created as /etc/yum.conf.rpmnew yum 100 % done 96/191 [...] warning: /etc/centos-base-yum.conf saved as /etc/centos-base-yum.conf.rpmsave Completing update for yum - 110/191 [...] Transaction(s) Complete # cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 3.3 (final) => files /etc/yum.conf* /etc/yum.conf -> /etc/centos-base-yum.conf ( Broken link! read the rest) /etc/yum.conf.rpmnew /etc/yum.conf-SAVE => files /etc/centos* /etc/centos-base-yum.conf.rpmsave /etc/centos-yum.conf I don't understand what happened :-O An idea ? -- Martin

SATA RAID Card

anyone have experiences installing SATA raid card with CentOS/RHEL? I am considering Promise FastTrak S150 Tx2 plus, FastTrack 2200 or FastTrack S150 Sx4 Which one of these ( or any othe brand) can ensure smooth install of CentOS without problems, thanks. :)Harris LIU

kernel update

Hostname Question?

Is there just one file that stores the Hostname globally? Or if I needed to change the Hostname would I need to update several different files? I am currently using 3.1 Thanks to all.

Wow, three threads in two days, I promise to be less loquacious from now on. Anyways, I've decided to run CentOS over Whitebox on my firewall because of the timeliness of updates. These packages have been rebuilt but should be the same as the previous release: Xconfigurator These packages have been modified: initscripts If /etc/centos-release is missing then /etc/redhat-release is used instead. An error about the missing file is no longer displayed.
