John, Would you like to take a first crack at the text for the migration center? You could then run it by this group. If we get something that is good enough not to get shot down here, I will work it into the web site. If we decide to go with separate sites, the text could just be copied over, so there would be no wasted effort. Centos - Samba - FreeBSD

Is Centos 3.1 as stable as FreeBSD to install a Samba File Server for a Visual fox pro database ? I am using Free at this moment. My english is not good, I hope you understand it !!! Thanks ! Anthony.

binary RPMs

Hi everybody. I know that we can normally install source rpms designed for RH9 and FC1, but can we also install the binary RPMs for RH9 and/or FC1 on a CentOS 3 system ?

rpm --rebuild problem

Hi to all. I'm having a problem with the rpm command. I am used to recompile a source rpm with the following command: rpm --rebuild sympa-4.1.2-8.src.rpm The problem is that the result is as following: --rebuild: unknown option I tried to rebuild the rpm database, with --rebuilddb, but nothing does. I have installed CentOS 3.1 (latest) and I also have updated the rpm package to the version number: rpm-4.2.2-0.14 I have of course installed or updated the rpm-build, rpm-devel, rpm-python. I thought that it was this version of rpm, so I downgraded the version to : rpm-4.2.1-4.4 (also all other rpm packages). But problem is the same. Does anybody know something about that ? Else, can somebody tell me if he was able to use the rpm --rebuild option on CentOS 3.1 ? Or should I ask this question on the newsgroup linux.redhat.rpm (they might not be happy if I'm a CentOS user..) ? Thanks you in advance, Daniel

Shockwave Flash player for CentOS

Hey, I am using CentOS-3 as a desktop distribution. With the exception of fewer red hats and some different logos, it looks exactly like RedHat 9 to me. The problem is some web sites do not work right, as there is no Shockwave Flash player and Java support seems to be a problem. For some web sites, I have to used Windows. I prefer not to download and install something that YUM could not help keep up to date. If I volunteered to be the "package maintainer", could browser enhancements be included in the "extras"? I am volunteering to be the package maintainer in part because I expect I would not actually have to do any package maintenance. Micromedia has a download for Mozilla under Linux, http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ and they say they support it for RedHat. I am hoping I will find a similar solution for Java. What do you say? Thanks, Rick Graves

centos 3 rpm compatibility

Hello. I would like to know what kind of RPMs we can use for centos 3, appart of the common centos 3 repository. Can we for example take a RedHat 8.0 rpm and install it ? Or can we for sure take an src.rpm and install it this way ? Thanks for any advice, Daniel

RHEL3 ES to CentOS-3.1 - Possible??

Hello, Does anyone know if it is possible to move from RHEL ES 3 to CentOS-3.1? I've seen How-To's for RH9 --> CentOS-3, but nothing for the more horizontal move of EL3 --> CentOS3.
