Status of CentOS 2.1

Hi! What is status of CentOS 2.1? Is it still developed, when is a stable release planed? Can i use it for non-critical production? What i can do, to help with CentOS 2.1? Regards J.Pinkis

Mounting Windows partition

Hello, I have recently installed CentOS 3.1 on my laptop and its a dual boot with XP on hda1. I was trying to mount that partion on to /mnt/XP. I have a problem here, when i say df, the listing does not show the XP partion (ntfs/hpfs filesystem). Obviously this can be diagnosed as my kernel does not have the appropriate module (Kernel version 2.4.21-9). I came to know that there is one kernel-ntfs rpm which can help us out here. Could some one get me the link for the appropriate download, as i cant find anything for that kernel version. any new suggestions are highly welcome. Upgrade install using CentOS-3.1 ISO images

That was last Friday, but still no sign of the moderator dealing with it, so I'm resending.] Cutting straight to the chase: When, if ever, does the installer offer an option to upgrade an existing installation, rather than wanting to reformat the disks? More details than you may want: I recently acquired a new PC chassis, with no operating system but with a Serial-ATA disk (which I was not expecting when I ordered it). I set the BIOS for legacy IDE mode and installed RedHat 9, then attempted to upgrade the kernel to add SATA support, without much luck. Searching for the SATA driver modules I found CentOS and decided to try it. I downloaded the three ISO images to another PC, burned CDs, and set about to upgrade my RH9. However, the installer never offered me the option of upgrading (keeping my existing filesystems) -- no matter what steps I tried using when starting the installer, by the time it got to the page for disk partitioning it always wanted to start from scratch and blow the existing partitions away. I finally concluded that I hadn't put anything important on the disks during my struggle with RH9, so I went ahead with the clean install. Everything is working nicely at this point, so thanks for that. However, there are some other RH9 systems around the office that may need to be upgraded at some point, and they definitely can't be wiped clean in the process. Is there a way to upgrade from RH9 to CentOS? Any remarks about upgrading from even older RedHat releases?

GPG key not installed?

Just installed v3.1, bringing it up to date to work with. It doesn't appear that RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-3 was installed anywhere on the system? Upgrading Heavily Modified RH9 Machines

Hello, I have several heavily modified RH9 machines (custom kernels, reiser FS, etc.) Just wondering if CentOS could do an upgrade install on machines such as this? I know it's always better to do a clean install, but these machines have been tweaked a lot over the last year and are running perfectly (a lot of time and effort went into this)... an upgrade install would be great. My main concern is the filesystem. Thanks, Brad

kernel with multi-LUN SCSI support

I am running CentOS 3.1 and everything is working beautifully except my HP12000e tape library that requires multi-LUN support. Every time I re-compile the 2.4.21 kernel with the multi-LUN SCSI option, I get the multi-LUN to work but something else breaks. Is there a pre-compiled kernel somewhere that is similar to the stock CentOS kernel except that it includes the multi-LUN feature? thanks! paul

Update centos-yumconf fixes security issue

An update has been released to centos-yumconf , the yum configuration file for centos because it was not set ot check the gpgkey on the packages ity installed. It was assumed that if there was a key then it would be checked, but that is not the case, it has to be explicitly enabled per repo. https://bugzilla.caosity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543 refers The updated file is :- http://mirror.centos.org/centos-3/3.1/updates/i386/RPMS/centos-yumconf-1-7.… and should be on all mirrors within a few hours. If you run 'yum update' then the package will be automatically updated, however if you run yum against a local, non mirrored repository, or you have edited yum.conf then you may not pick up this update, in which case you should edit yum.conf to add gpgcheck=1 to each repo stanza.
