Hi,
A little bit off topic here, but I was wondering if anybody knows about a good dedicate server provider, that offers CentOS (but ofcourse) as a os choice, and that is very reliable.
I am using SuperbServer, but as of this moment 2007/03/19 1406 America/NewYork time, my server is down do to a power outage at one of their facilities in VA. This is the second outage in less that 5 months. Unacceptable.
But yes, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I too used to use Superb and wouldn't go back there again. I would also recommend against The Planet in Dallas, while they have gotten better in the past year, we had a server down for 5 hours, the reason? "Sorry, one of our techs apparently tripped over the power cord to your server and unplugged it."
Stay far away from The Planet.
If you have your own box, CIHost.com is pretty good and they often have some pretty good specials. Link a 1U space for $49.00 per month, but it does require prepaying for 1 year in advance, and this is space/bandwidth - you supply your own server.
I have rack space in the Dallas data center, from tests some friends and I have done, it appears ping times to their Chicago data center are faster, but I prefer being near my servers and I am in the Dallas area.
They also offer dedicated servers, but not sure if they offer CentOS.

The *.centos.org network runs off donated dedicated machines by various hosting companies, you could start by looking there to find a potential host ( list at http://www.centos.org/mirrors : look at the banner adverts on the page )

LOL. The top-rated sponsor on that page (not only do they have the top banner, but they have two of them) is none other than SuperbServers. hehe
For those who don't know, webhostingtalk.com is a good resource for finding out which hosting companies are 'on the nose' and which are highly recommended by customers.

There are no ratings on that page, the donors all get equal exposure via the banners, and they rotate every few minutes.

We, at the centos project, recommend the hosting companies on www.centos.org/mirrors - purely because of their support for the project.

Fair enough. But why have you allowed them to have more than one banner? Does the number of banners depend upon how many resources they have donated to CentOS?

Yes ... they have donated more that one dedicated server to CentOS ... and we have never had an issue on the servers that they have donated to us.

Check out LiquidWeb at liquidweb.com. I haven't had any unscheduled downtime since Nov. 04 when I switched to them from Superb. We have 4 dedicated servers there.
One note of concern though -- I just went to their website and they are promoting Windows servers. Hmm...when I signed up with them they were 95% Linux. Maybe that explains why one of the recent techs I contacted was not as on the ball as when I began.
Take care,

I have used layeredtech.com for about a year and a half now with no problems at all.

I also have several machines at LayeredTech and have had ZERO problems with uptime or stability. One reason I switched to them was because they supported the CentOS project. They're also a Texas company :)

I did have a bad experience with ServerPronto.com the other day - I requested they install Gentoo and cPanel. Only AFTER billing me $69 USD for re-imaging my machine did they inform me that I was not able to run cPanel on CentOS. Not happy.
Thanks for your recommendations everyone. I am going to close my ServerPronto account and get a server with LayeredTech.
