Good afternoon all, I've been considering setting up a public mirror to help support CentOS as we use it for all our servers. I do however, have a question that I can not seem to find an answer to... how much storage space will the system need? I'm showing a number of 416 errors in my mirror's Apache log files. They all appear to be for CentOS 5.2 x86_64 noarch packages. It's possible that this is due to some problems that are currently being discussed in -mirror. hughesjr recently rebuilt the hardlink structure for 5.2 x86_64 noarch packages, following reports of files that failed to match their checksums. I personally have set: FileETag MTime in my mirror Apache config, which probably has left my server caching information and advertising ETag validity for files that have since shrunk following the relinking. Clients are left asking for more file than currently exists. Restarting the server is an immediate fix; but I should probably also be including at least Size in there... or maybe just unset it and let the default "INode MTime Size" work its magic. It's possible that the metadata files also have some influence on what content ranges are requested, but I'm not a Yum expert so I can't say for sure. -Brandon

Yum 3.2.8-9 from msync-dvd.centos.org wrong?

A few users have reported we have a bad copy of yum on our mirror causing update failures. The yum package on mirror.steadfast.net had the md5sum: 0ef11f016a2cf6545ae4abb356abc498 yum-3.2.8-9.el5.centos.2.1.noarch.rpm A copy from mirror.centos.org has: d776014eb266b87299465cb38e0f6b96 yum-3.2.8-9.el5.centos.2.1.noarch.rpm After replacing the RPM with the one from mirror.centos.org, it seems to verify correctly. If I delete the file from our mirror and allow rsync to fetch it again, it receives the same file as it did originally, with the wrong md5sum. The file sizes however, are the same. Is there a bad copy of the file on msync-dvd.centos.org, which we sync from? 5.2 Release going to mirrors

All, We are releasing 5.2 to the mirrors via msync.centos.org and msync-dvd.centos.org. Initially (for the first 24-48 hours) the permissions on the 5.2 directory will be 770 ... which should put it on your mirror but NOT show it via your web server. We will change the permissions (flip the bit :D) on the 5.2 directory to 775 after we get a significant amount of external mirrors that show as synced. We are doing this to minimize bad updates (and/or downloads) until the mirrors are fully synced. If any of you have extra bandwidth and want to seed the Bittorrents, that would also be appreciated as well, the torrent files are in the isos directories. Thanks, Johnny Hughes
