[OT] DNSguruz pl help: whois structure, delegation & handling delegation with Tinydns.

List: Sorry for posting to this list but could not find step by step instructions anywhere nor get any concerned list to respond. Newbie to DNS technicals but can work with instructions if given in ./configure for complete idiots ;-) 1. I have taken a static IP from my ISP 203.134.221.162 and the ISP has put up an entry in APNIC whois (please check the same)...to me it seems incomplete, as it does not give any contact information/tel/email for my organization NOR any abuse email Id etc. On asking, the ISP simply told me that nobody asks anything more in whois entry from them so I would have to tell what I want of them. Please advise what a standard whois reply should show for an organisation and pointers to a RFC which guides the structure & field names of a whois record. 2. Classless delegation...I want to setup my own primary DNS Server on my DSL with secondary slave DNS servers on the net with DNS services like zoneedit.com etc. Now, I want my ISP to delegate my IP so, I can change my IP reverse DNS etc...(whenever I want instead of waiting for my ISP which takes over a month & multiple contacts, letters & faxes). Please advise what the ISP requires to do and what I require to do & in what order. My ISP says that they will do whatever is possible but since they have never had a query for delegation for a single IP, so they are not sure. Does the TinyDNS server have to be prepared in advance of the APNIC delegation entry? Does the ISP have to create a account/ID with APNIC for me? Please advise the generalised procedure & the steps sequence wise to be taken to do this. DNS Guruz please help...am desperate. With regards. Sanjay.

how to get erratas's summary and URL with "check-update" ?

Hello, running a "yum check-update" is cool to get a list of packages to update with versions. In addition of that, i'm looking for a way to get for each package, the link to the RH's errata and the severity status in the same report. My idea was to parse output of check-update, and join it with "centos-announce" mailing list subjects to get it. It's pretty twisted. RHN interface offer a similar report, but it's web based, authenticated, and co ... Is anyone has ever thought about it ? -- Martin

Has anyone on the list used one of these w/Linux? We currently use Linux + Cinelerra for editing uncompressed video (and a few dual G5 macs running Final Cut Pro). Current editing stations are getting a bit long in the tooth so I've been mulling over a mass upgrade. 8-) These cards are interesting to me because they are PCI-X and support 4 SATAII drives per multilane/infiniband connector for a total of 16 drives. Multilane is interesting to me because the editor can use a SFF system (tiny desktop footprint) with 1M multilane cables talking to the pile of disks in an external enclosure stashed out of the way with its own redundant power supply. I was going to just order some multilane 3Ware cards, but one of my more technically inclined video editors suggested this card. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Best regards,

iSCSI experiences

I just tried an iSCSI connection to a NetAPP filer. I first tried using CentOS-4.2, but the iscsi initiator would not work. Using the command iscsi-ls would not show anything. Without spending too much time trying to figure out why, I tried from a CentOS-3 box. Connecting from the CentOS-3 box worked without a problem the first time. I will try further to get the CentOS-4 box to connect, but for starters the CentOS-3 box connection is stable and fast. I have also bonded two one gig NIC's on both the Filer, and the client, and have a separate iSCSI VLAN. I still have yet to do any benchmarking, but initially things seem ok.

VPN via PPTP and MPPE setup

I did have a howto for setting up PPTP on a Centos server (3.6) can anyone point me to a howto ? I have been searching the internet but as yet cannot find a howto that works for me. Thanks Denis

Xhosts file

I posted a question a few days back to see if anyone could tell me where the default X0.hosts file should/does reside. Searching the system turns up nothing, and did not find any info in any of the man pages, other than it would reside in /etc, but doesn't. Setting a host access permission does not become permanent, and I'd really like to find out where the thing should be so I can solve that little irritant. Thanks.. -- Snowman

mysql user missing on centos rpm install

Centos 4.2, installed mysql using yum....rpm did not create the mysql user....bug in rpm script or am I doing something wrong? but I did not do anything except yum install mysql & cat /etc/passwd ? Comments?

CentOS 4.2 and Adaptect 1210SA

Adaptec 1210SA with a RAID 0 Intel 815 based mobo 512mb ram During the install, Disk Druid or whatever the partition utility is, sees the first disk but says the other disk is not initialized and only reports 150MB when the array is 300MB. How do I get the CentOS installer to see the RAID 0 array correctly?

The value of your presentation rises or falls with your skill at presentation. 2: My embedded headless linux targets live in isolated networks, even relative to other computer or network equipment at the target site.
