Nautilus / Desktop Icons

Hi, I've a nautilus problem with CentOS 4. It doesn't show the desktop items any more (also after dropping all gnome files/dirs from a users homedir) en the right mouse button menu also doesn't work. Googling around I've found various items about the problem but until now not a clear solution. Some people mention some 'browser mode in nautilus preferences'. But I can't get there. Even if I login with a KDE desktop I can't launch nautilus (nothing happens). Any ideas? I've SELinux enabled, I hope that's not related? Text to Speech on CentOS4

I am setting up a laptop (Sony VAIO PCG-4?) for my learning disabled son (age 11). I have previously used MicroSoft 2Kpro and XPpro / Office 2K platforms for text-to-speech applications as that is what most commercial LD Assist software is written for. However, with MS now requiring that one inventories ones entire computer software configuration with them before getting updates to their software coupled with the high risk nature of doing without those updates, I am reluctant to continue this practice. What I am looking for is a robust, good quality, text-to-speech reader that can work with Open Office under CentOS4. I have googled extensively but frankly I need a bit of guidance as to what is the best of breed available. If the package uses/supports ATT Natural Voices as an option then that would be wonderful as I already have the necessary licences for those voices. Does anyone here have any experience with this type of software and can recommend a particular package? Commercial apps. are fine. It is functionality I am after, not economies. The 9.1.5.2 was fine. In fact the 9.2 firmware delivered (FE9X 2.06.00.009) with the driver is buggy if you use more than 1 unit. (Hotspares are considered as an unit.). We got a new firmware from 3ware support and it solves the problem. With some tweaking and 5 x RAID 5 volume on 3 x 3ware card (capacity around 5TB) we got with the iozone test 160MB/s write and 270MB/s Read. If you want more detailed information contact me.

USB ethernet driver?

Hi, I have a new networking card for my laptop: Linksys USBVPN1. It's a USB networking with a build-in firewall. I have CentOS 4.1 with the latest yum update. When I plug it in, CentOS does not even recognize it. I have check, /var/log/messages and nothing in the dmesg. Layer 1 works, I do have proper link connection, the correct lights come up both on the switch and on the USBVPN1. Mail problem

I have a problem finding the log from centos. I have installed qmail and i receive a lot of infected mails and i can't stop them because i don't know the ip from where they came. I know that in log files it is kept that ip but i havent't find it. In /var/log/ maillog it is a list but it does not have the ip of the mails. Can anyone help me? Japanese Language Support?

When I installed CentOS, I was careful to install Japanese language support. However, now that CentOS is running, I can't seem to get Japanese language input going. I clicked on the top menu bar to add the "Input Method Switcher", and now there is a little white square on the top panel. If I click on it, gives me the option of using ASCII input, or to "Add or Remove". If I click on "Add or Remove", I get an "Add or Remove Languages" dialoge box, which is empty. There are no languages to add to the list of selections, and nothing in the area marked "Languages shown in menu" either. There are also no options to install languages. I went to Applications | System Settings | Add/Remove Applications to look for language settings, but they weren't there. How do I get my Japanese language input up and running? Dave

The only problem I've had is it doesn't detect verbatim pocket cd-rw, so I use k3b for that. on another (offtopic) subject, I get the list in digest, does anyone know how I can get my replies to go in the right thread? can I get specific messages resent to me or something so I can reply and have it work right?
