Hi there -- The version number associated with the driver is 0. There is no further information available other than it was listed within the driver disk creation utility as a Red Hat Enterprise 3 driver. Versions 3.3 and 3.4 are the only two of the 3.x line that support the x86_64 architecture. Usually, the kernel version for the driver needs to match the kernel it is built for. So, you would use CentOS-3 or CentOS-2.1 and get the ISO that you need, based on the driver. We did not release a CentOS-3.0 ... so there is not a CD for that. CentOS and Red Hat SATA drivers

Hi there -- I was going to experiment with a CentOS x86_64 install in the following manner: One of our new dual-xeon servers is using an Adaptec SATA controller card that has drivers available for Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 and Enterprise Linux 3.0. I was going to create the drivers for one or the other and then attempt an install via the linux dd command. My question is, would either of these drivers work with a version of CentOS, and if so what version could I use? Thanks.

RHCS/RHGFS rpms

built for Centos 4, source from RHEL RHCS/RHGFS rpms in ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/os/RH{CS|GFS} kernel related rpms are built against i686 only. http://chantaipo.cjb.net:8080/pub/centos/4/RH{CS|GFS}/i386 only up2date works at the moment if you want to try them out.

SATA controller compatibility

Greetings - I'm looking to put some cheap storage into my server, which is running centos 3. I'm looking at the Maxtor SATA/150 PCI Card and a big maxtor sata drive. I would like to make sure that CentOS has driver for this controller. I looked in Red Hat's hardware database and did some google'ing but I couldn't find any info to confirm that this card is compatible. Any ideas where else to look? Thanks Mike

The ext2/3 filesystem wasn't designed for resizing online, so it's quite nice one can do it at all; but it appears the LVM2 approach is to rely on the e2fsprogs to do the work, so, taking you question literally, no, there is no LVM2 tool to resize; you would do a two-step, resizing the logical volume then resizing the filesystem with e2fsprogs. But, having never had opportunity to do this, I have no direct experience with it. --- So, has anyone found an equivalent (even multiple commands that I could put in a script) for the e2fsadm utility to extend a logical volume? Fighting some install issues with a new box

Folks- I have had a machine dropped in my lap that I am trying to get CentOS 4.1 to run on as a first pass (the hope is for it to eventually run Rocks -- http://www.rocksclusters.org , which uses CentOS 4.x as its underlying OS). The machine has 2 Opteron 250DP (2.4GHz) with 4 GB of RAM. It is using a Tyan Thunder K8WE (S2895A2NRF) motherboard with an nVidia nForce chipset -- http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8we.html. It is configured to boot from an SATA drive (80GB) and then use 3Ware 8506-8 card with 8x250GB SATA drives in a big raid 5 as a data store. So, CentOS appears to recognize the nics and find the boot drive well enough to go through a complete install. Now this is where things get "interesting" .. the install process hung for a very long period of time during the "installing grub" phase (this was a cd install, so no post or anything, done off-line). It finally rebooted, but it just hangs at the "GRUB Loading stage2..." If I boot the machine using the 4.1 install cd in rescue mode, I can see the filesystem (the OS is installed). /etc/grub.conf doesn't look unreasonable. One oddball thing is that I cannot see the 3ware card at all (doesn't show up in lspci output). Any thoughts? Anyone set up a similar beastie? Thanks. Sean

Software to monitor security logs and email ISPs?

I know they have software that does this. I'm just not sure which one it is. Basically here's the scoop. I'm on a cable modem connection with Comcast. I have a firewall router and I run a firewall on CentOS as well. All the same, other computers (probably zombies or hackers) are attempting brute force attacks on a couple of ports on my computer. I've just sat and watched them for some time. Not thinking that much of it. But I'd like to actually do something about it and inform the ISPs of said computers that that computer is compromised or being used by a hacker. I know there is software out there that will monitor your logs, reverse trace the IP address, and contact the ISP saying that at X time on X day X IP address tried to brute force hack my machine. I guess it's one of those things where I'm sick of seeing it come up in my security log, so I'd like to start sending email to the ISPs to tell them to do their job and enforce their rules for all the Windoze users out there. But I don't want to take the time to do it manually. Any suggestions? Preston
