How do I Install Java on CentOS 4

Hello, I have just successfully installed Cent OS Linux to my Dual Processor Machine, it will be operating as a web-server but i need to install it as local so I know how to set it up for the Internet but I can't Install Java and flash. file size limit in apache 2.0 on centos 4

I think I am encountering a download file size limit on centos 4 with httpd-2.0.52 The file in question is 5.2G in size, it does not show up in a browser directory listing, and I'm getting the error in the http error_log value too large for defined data type: access can someone confirm that there is a 4GB limit (or other) in the standard apache 2.0 on CentOS 4? I see we are using MoinMoin on the CentOS wiki. Is there an rpm available for this? I'd like to install it on either a CentOS 3 or CentOS 4 system. Bob

Many thanks to all that took the trouble to reply to what turned out to be my own self-inflicted problem.... It turns out that I had upgraded one of the servers to PHP5 to do some testing and had left it that way rather than reverting to the stock Centos PHP4. That, coupled with a rather outdated install of Horde was causing the problem. Back on PHP4 now and all is ok. Are you sure ALL the files are 100% the same, including executables and libraries? I would do an md5sum of EVERY file that might be even remotely related to the behavior of Apache, Horde and anything else and then compare the MD5sums of all the files on the two different systems. If that doesn't turn up anything, then do rpm -qa and make sure all the packages are at the same version. The strange thing is that both Apaches are configured the same so I would expect the same problem with both. This not being the case, I'm thinking the problem is not with Apache but with Horde or elsewhere. However Horde was copied from one server to another (it's actually the original install that's giving the problem so that rules out an error when copying across). OT: Problems with Pound Signs and Apache

Hi list, I have 2 Centos 4 servers running the Horde system, apparently identical in configuration, but they are behaving differently... On one, when emails containing a Pound Sign (£) are displayed it shows as Â£ (not sure if this will come through right, but it's a capital A with a 'hat' accent over it followed by the pound sign). On the other, the Pound sign displays correctly. I have copied the httpd.conf files over between servers and this has no effect. Looking at the page source both are en-gb and UTF8. It looks like the problem is not with Apache as the config files are identical. Both servers are running the same version of Apache, and for that matter the same version of everything else, and all updates are applied. Would anyone have any ideas where to start looking to track down this discrepancy? Thanks! Andy.

HP Surestore 12000e and multi-LUN

I am running CentOS 4.4 and trying to bring up my tape library. When I do cat /proc/scsi/scsi, it shows only the drive and not the changer although both are shown when the Adaptec card initializes. I recall in the distant past that I had to do "something" to get the kernel to properly scan the SCSI bus for the additional LUN but I cannot for the life of me recall what that was. It would have also been a much earlier kernel. Can anyone here help me out? Regards, paul

Proper partition/LVM growth after RAID migration

Hi This topic is perhaps not for this list, but it I'm running on a CentOS 4.4 and it seems that a lot of people here uses 3Ware and RAID volumes. I did a RAID migration on a 3Ware 9590SE-12, so that an exported disk grew from 700GB to 1400GB. The exported disk is managed by LVM. The problem now is that I don't really know what to do now to let LVM and my locigal volume to make use of this new disk size, and probably future disk size growth. I initially imagined that I could let the physical partition grow and then the LVM PV, the LV and the FS (ext3) to grow to fill up the new exported disk size. Then I realized that this is not how LVM is designed - you add PVs and let the LV and FS to grow. But, what if the underlying exported disk from a RAID card is growing as you add disks to it's RAID volume? Should you create new physical partitions on the exported disk, and specifically, extended partitions, since you might in the future add more than 4 partitions? Secondly, it seems there is a problem after this migration: The graphical LVM shows that I have an "Unpartitioned space" on the exported disk, but I can't click on "Initialize entry" button. The property window on the right says: "Not initializable: Partition manually". parted shows only one partition: [root@acrux ~]# parted /dev/sdb print Disk geometry for /dev/sdb: 0.000-1430490.000 megabytes Disk label type: msdos Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags 1 0.000 715245.000 primary lvm fdisk in expert mode (x) shows that partition 2-4 fields are all zeros. Should I now make a lvm partition in an extended partition in parted, and then hopefully, the graphical LVM will be able to add the new physical partition to my logical volume, and then resize my fs (ext3)?
