I would probably need to > do this in my daily cron job. Check out Yam. You can get it via yum from the rpmforge repository. Reposting in correct thread: One thing I forgot to include in my previous post - be sure to read the documentation and look at NVidia's example XF86Config file (or whatever x.org calls it) - certain modules need to be disabled (dri, something else that I forget...). It makes a world of difference in performance, is easy to install, and is completely distribution neutral. I/O resource -- not free --- IRDA problems?

I get a message while booting of: ide2: I/O resource 0x3EE-0x3EE not free. ide2: ports already in use, skipping probe Googling for this, I find it is relatively common, and on different laptops. I thought it might be my internal SD reader causing the problems, but these other notebooks do not have such devices. Then I found: http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~pb22/I8600/ and: " IrDA - works except on COM3 / ttyS2 It appears that *ttyS2* (the FC2 default) does not work as the IrDA - on boot it reports `*ttyS2 at I/O 0x3e8 (irq = 0) is a 16550A*' and `*ide2: I/O resource 0x3EE-0x3EE not free.*', `*ide2: ports already in use, skipping probe*'. As such, during *POST* press *F2* and *Alt-P* 3 times and set the IrDA to *COM2* or *COM4* (which select *IRQ 3* with *I/O 0x2f8* or *0x2e8* on *ttyS1* or *ttyS3* - ra3 is the latter). Edit */etc/pcmcia/config.opts* to `*exclude irq 3*' (so that the IRQ is free) and */etc/sysconfig/irda* to set `*DEVICE=/dev/ttyS3*' (or *1*), and run `*chkconfig irda on*' so that it starts on reboot (or `*/etc/rc.d/init.d/irda start*' or `*irattach /dev/ttyS3 -s*'). It should load *ircomm_sir*, *sir_dev*, *irnet*, *ppp_generic*, *slhc*, *ircomm_tty*, *ircomm*, *irda*, *irtty_sir* and *crc_ccitt*, and */var/log/messages* should have" Now I have already put ttyS2 on irq3 (from dmseg): ttyS2 at I/O 0x3e8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A How do I test the IRDA?

removing multiple packages

Can someone in the list guide me how do I remove an RPM file which is installed 2 times. Following are the error: [root@Gateway Samba64-23c]# rpm -e samba-common error: "samba-common" specifies multiple packages and rpm -qa |grep samba gives as below samba-common-3.0.10-1.4E-9 samba-common-3.0.10-1.4E-9 It list 2 times the same package and I can not remove them. Could you please help me? Thanks Rajeev

Whereis Pessulus?

Hi all, I'm mounting a LTSP server whith CentOS 4.4. The default desktop will be Gnome. I'm looking for lockdown tool and I think Pessulus maybe a good option, but I don't found it with yum. ¿Is Pessulus included in CentOS? ¿Another lockdown tools as alternatives? CentOS 2.1 on i586

I've just attempted to reinstall my ancient laptop that has Pentium MMX processor. Since it is ancient, I've decided to go with CentOS 2.1. Got stuck, installer claims I need at least i686. Hmmm... I know that 3.8 and 4.4 work without a glitch on i586, so this came as surprise. I even thing original RHEL2.1 might had support for i586 too (but I might be wrong). Anyhow, what happened with i586 in CentOS 2.1?

make 3.79.1 assertion failed error

Hi, Sorry for cross-posting but I need to tap into my most helpful mailinglists for this problem. I have had assertion failed errors from make before and never understood what they were or where they came from. But now that I have them consistently for ffmpeg and mplayer on everything smaller than FC2, which prevents me from updating both mplayer and ffmpeg (and I know lots of other applications have the same issue). The exact error is: make: expand.c:489: allocated_variable_append: Assertion `current_variable_set_list->next != 0' failed. By coincidence (called Google) I found this page: http://valgrind.org/docs/manual/faq.html#faq.make_dies and it made the relation with make 3.79.1 pretty clear. (fc1, el3, rh9, rh7 and el2 all use make 3.79.1) I was wondering if anyone knows of a better solution than explained in the valgrind FAQ, or better than upgrading make. Once upon a time mplayer built without this assertion, other applications as well. So is this caused by a more recent configure/autotools used by the developers ? Some way to prevent this ?
