Installing: difference between linux and i586 mode

Hi. When you installing CenOS 4 it offers two options linux and i586. What is the best option for an Pentium III? And for a Pentium IV?

Hi Guys, Im having a problem compiling zaptel 1.2.4 on CentOS 4.3, anyone encountered this problem before? pc speaker mess

I wanted to enable my pc speaker and ref. http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=855 this should work: /sbin/modprobe pcspkr and then it worked!!! a little too much I might add, I thought the fire alarm went off ;) a /sbin/modprobe -r pcspkr helped a little, it stopped beeping and just gave one long sound. I couldnt take it anymore so I rebooted it to make it stop. Is this a bug ?? It is a CentOS 4.2 updated last time just before 4.3 was released. best regards Ulrik

Hi all, I wanted to create a custom CentOS single CD by removing some RPMS from the stock.I am using CentOS 4.2. Does anybody has any documentation or so then please send me, I will be thankful to you. I have tried a little bit but no success. I want to create a bootable CD, Please help ... packaging local builds

I have built software on unix/Linuix many times, but now I want to move two packages that I have built on one machine to another (both CentOS4.2), and the time seems ripe to discover how to use rpm. The packages are subversion-1.3.0 and swig-1.3.28. How do I turn the the results of the build process into rpms? installation via telnet

Hello, Is it possible to do a telnet installation of centos 4.x? When i was using fc3 that was doable with a command at the boot prompt like: telnet ip=address netmask=mask gateway=address ksdevice=/dev/eth0 this works now, i.e. the box's ip comes up on the network, pinging it works, but a telnet connection from another unix box immediately gets a connection closed by foreign host msg and all further atempts are refused. yum update killed on cleanup stage - anything to worry about?

Hello everyone, I had to kill yum while it's on the cleanup stage (somehow it stalled so i killed it). Should I be worried about anything in this situation? If so, how do I go about fixing it?
