can't boot from install cd

We are migrating from Fermi Labs linux distro to the Centos 3.6 distro. So far all of the Dell's we have installed on have worked fine but we have two generic servers that are using Tyan Thunder K7X motherboards with built in Adaptec Ultra 160 SCSI using AIC7899 chipset. When we try to install on these systems the install cd seems to lockup loading the AIC7xxx driver. Adaptec says they do not support OEM embedded products and Tyan says that any embedded firmware is included in the bios upgrades which we have upgraded. We can migrate "online" by following the White-box to Centos migrate instructions and that works fine but it worries me that if I lost a hard drive in one of these systems I could not install Centos directly. Any suggestions for work arounds? Thanks Rich A.

error while loading shared libraries: libpam.so.0

Hiya all, am currently running centos 4 on a dual xeon (emt64). I get the following error.."error while loading shared libraries: libpam.so.0" from a dell info app. I'm guessing its because currently it wants the 32bit ver of pam? (As the file can be found fine in /lib64). Tried linking, but guessed that wouldn't work. Does it need a compat set of libs for it libpam.so.0, or is it ok to just yum install pam.i386 or is that going to break it, so was hoping for some gentle guidance as not so familiar with the 64 bit side yet :/. Printing problem

Hi. I've been running CentOS 4 since it was released (since 4.0). I did a fresh install and have kept it updated using up2date and yum so at present my system is running CentOS 4.2. I mostly use my system as a super-user and so I can mostly do everything without worrying too much about permissions. Not too long ago I created a "general" user account which is automatically logged in after a few seconds for others to have (limited) access to the system (default desktop is GNOME). Mostly everything works (ie. CD/DVD writing, sound, floppy access, etc.) But when it comes to printing, only a specific "lpr" at the command prompt (in a terminal) does the job. I've tried printing from mozilla, ggv and firefox without success. The funny thing is that an app such as gedit does print. (I'm guessing it's because gedit uses some sort of a2ps -> lpr combination). I have an Epson Stylus C82 connected via a USB cable and my system is running CUPS. Can anyone enlighten me? PXE boot, Kickstart NFS install and %include...

I was just wondering how (or indeed if) people use the %include directive in Kickstart configuration files when building systems via NFS. I've been trying to modularise our Kickstart files a little to make things more readable, having generic defaults and role specific stuff split out into separate configs. I've tried this configuration... If I include everything pre-%post (IYSWIM) in the main Kickstart file then everything works as expected up till the %post %includes when Anaconda complains it can't find blah.cfg, presumably because it's not local. I could live with the body of Kickstart config in the main file and then manually NFS mount and reference the modular configs, if I have to, but I wondered is there a better method? Using up2date to download channels on rhn

Hi all, i have a problem with centos's up2date tool. I have setup a central update server with yam (http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/yam/) under CentOS-4. Installing CentOS SPARC

I'm trying to install CentOS SPARC, but the problem comes after i make "ok boot cdrom", the machine starts to boot, but i get the below ouyput Environment monitoring: Disabled Executing last command: boot cdrom Boot device: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@d/cdrom@0,0:f File and args: SILO Version 1.4.9 \ boot: Allocated 8 Megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel Uncompressing image... Fast Instruction Access MMU Miss ok After that it doesn't get any further, and i can not continue with the installation. Am i doing somethig wrong? Is it problem with the CD's?
