Permissive SELinux hangs some services

SELinux is set to permissive mode and warns on startup of a service (during boot-up): Warning! Could not relabel /dev/pts/0 with user_u:object_r:initrc_devpts_t, not relabeling.Operation not permitted So far, so good. But this logging let's this application and all that should start after it hang. ps then shows: initlog -q -c /etc/rc3.d/S98bigsister start (bigsister is a monitoring agent) if I wait long enough the above warning gets written to messages and startup of that daemon succeeds. However, the other daemons after it don't start. If I kill the initlog process fast enough the other daemons start, nothing gets logged and the bigsister service fails to start. syslog is clearly started and working at that time. If I set SELINUX=disabled the startup process runs like normal. So it's clearly that SELinux logging (or something else in regard to SELinux, although disabled) that makes this fail. CentOS 4.3 apt repo

I asked this before when I configured another CentOS box, but I forget the answer. In my apt sources folder, I don't have a repo that is the equivalent of the yum Centos.Base.repo. Where do I find such a file?

Xen on CentOS 4.3

Hello, Has anyone set up Xen on an existing CentOS 4.3 system? Does it work well, or is it better to wipe the system and start clean? I haven't found a lot of information about this specifically. Secondly, I have found on the xen source website downloads for xen 3.02, which are meant for FC4 or RHEL (U1). I'm tempted to try the RHEL downloads, but I don't have any spare machines to test on, so I'd have to do it to a live system (!). Even though the xen download is for RHEL U1, will it work on RHEL U3/CentOS 4.3 machine? Has anyone tried this? I'm anxious to consolidate three of my servers onto one under used machine because one of the three is going to suffer a HD failure soon (it's locking up every now and then, and I hear the HD making clicking noises!). I have several systems (CentOS 3 and CentOS 4) with software raid and I've observed a difference in the raid state: In CentOS 3 systems we find that mdadm --detail /dev/md* show: .............. kickstart

Hello, I've been trying to kickstart a install centos from a USB memory stick. Everything with that is working fine, but I seem to be having a problem with the ks.cfg file. When I boot the install media from the usb drive, the the boot prompt I type linux ks=hd:/dev/uba1/ks.cfg Then I peek at the logs and it even says * getting kickstart file * getting kickstart file from harddrive * Loading ks from device on path dev/uba1/ks.cfg * getFileFromBlockDevice(, dev/uba1/ks.cfg) But when the install script starts, it still ask me for install media location. Here's a copy of my ks.cfg too.. Permissions of the file on /dev/uba1 are 744. I couldn't help but take notice at some of the responses that were coming in from when I was posting questions due to my ignorance of Linux. Some people were quick to help, some advanced users I am sure ignored me because im not worth their time, and then some other users tried to help but was unable to dumb their speech down to newb levels. However I am thankful that there is people here to help out. I am hoping someone with CentOS will take notice at my difficulty in finding the bloody manuals and will put a link for future newbs that says "Download Manuals Here". I also hope in the future if I have questions I will be able to get the answers I seek and those who helped me before will be able to help me again. Thanks
