First, I want to thank Karanbir for the centos extras repo. I have a question about dkms. I have several Dell PowerEdge systems with Centos 4, and kbs-CentOS- Extras and dell-software repos enabled. Is there any possible conflict if I allow yum to update dkms from dell-software instead of kbs-CentOS-Extras? Currently the i386 architecture has version 2.0.11- in dell-software and 2.0.10-1 in kbs-CentOS-Extras. Cheers, Tony Schreiner Boston College

PostgreSQL 8.2?

I've been using RPMs for PG 8.1 from CentosPlus for some time now. I've been very happy with them, and they've been wonderfully stable. http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/centosplus/x86_64/RPMS/ But now 8.2 is out. OOT: Advice on failover rsync setup

Hi all, I have a task on setting up a cluster of 2 servers for providing ftp service. We use RH's Cluster suite. However the cluster setup is lack of shared network storage, so the /var/ftp/pub is mounted on each server. The cluster is set with Master and Slave configuration (when the master is down, slave serves. and when master is up again, slaves gives up the service back to master). We thought of using rsync to synchronize the two directory on each server. B -----> A with: rsync -avzgorp -e ssh root@serverB:/var/ftp/pub/ /var/ftp/pub/ A -----> B with: rsync -avzgorp --delete -e ssh /var/ftp/pub/ root@serverB:/var/ftp/pub/ (note: using --delete) We want those command to make sure that the most current and complete /var/ftp/pub is on A and we put those command on A only. So, are we on the right direction? Or is there any better way? I replaced my Linksys with the Buffalo only because the Buffalo was cheaper, around $55. Dd-wrt is pretty easy to figure out. HTH Mark

Thunderbird package chrome icon

Hello, Since starting to use the Thunderbird package provided through the CentOS yum repos (currently using thunderbird-1.5.0.9-0.1.el4.centos4), my co-worker and I have noticed that we no longer have a Thunderbird icon in the title bar of any of the Thunderbird application windows. I was able to fix this by creating the directory /usr/lib/thunderbird-1.5.0.9/chrome/icons/default/ and copying into it the (attached) file default.xpm. The binary download bundle from the mozilla.org site includes that file (and several others under the chrome/icons directory) while the package from the CentOS repos does not. Is there something that I'm missing? Please note that I am not talking about the desktop integration (i.e. the thunderbird.desktop file and the thunderbird.png file in the /usr/share/pixmaps directory). That part works fine. I would to like to mark and route some kind of traffic (ie: outbound www, now by simplicity) ---inet1--------eth0------------| | | linux | --eth1------- clientes ---inet2(90.0.0.1)--------eth2-| | I have eth0 and eth1 bridged (eth2 is not bridged). I would to route www outbound clients traffic through eth2. This scheme works ? I wrote this scripts: a) add this line to /etc/iproute2/rt_tables 200 web b) I assign ip to eth2: /sbin/ifconfig eth2 90.0.0.2 c) Mark outbound www packets from clients: /usr/local/sbin/iptables -A PREROUTING -t mangle -m physdev --physdev-in eth1 -p tcp --dport 80 -j MARK --set-mark 2 d) I routing this marked packets /sbin/ip rule add fwmark 2 table web /sbin/ip route add default via 90.0.0.1 dev eth2 table web e) Now I run iptraf listen eth2 but through eth2 is nothing of traffic. I need to install libMrm.so.3 on my computer that has Centos4.3. However, I am not experienced with Centos4.3 so far. I do not know where to find this library for Centos4.3 and how to install it. Is there something like apt? Using system-config-packages I cannot find any intelligent way to search for programs and package. Dirk

Very Dumb Question : I have tried about four times now, using an old pentium2 with two hard drives (20 GB and 30 GB) to install both CentOS 4.4 and Fedora Core 6 in such a way as to enable dual-boot between them. I've tried it by installing 4.4 first, and then FC6. I've tried it by installing FC6 first, and then 4.4. I've tried it with and without giving the installer permission to use both drives. I always end up with ability to boot only to one OS, usually the one installed last. Between tries I wipe both drives with DBAN. Surely there must be something I'm doing wrong, obvious to many but not to me.
