Cluster with two i386 pcs!

I want to make a cluster with two simple (INTEL SATA) pcs using CentOS, my question is? Is there something easiest than Linux RedHat Cluster Manager to make a cluster using CentOS with just two pcs? Regards, Israel

I tried installing with several options (noacpi noapm; noprobe; noprobe skipddc noacpi noapm nodma). Always I get the same error. BUT this is not in fac a CentOS problem at all, because I get the same error always when I boot from hd (Fedora Core), IF there is a CD in the CD-ROM drive. (I tried with CentOS 1/4, CentOS 2/4 and a HP printer software CD.) It must be something with the CD drive! Maybe I just have to try another CD drive. - Jussi H. Preventing a user from moving "up" directories

I am in the process of setting up a new server. In the process I cannot remember what I need to set so that an FTP user cannot move upward in the directory tree of the user's directory. The FTP server is VSFTP. The user's directory is owned by the user and the permissions are 775. Isn't there a setting in httpd.conf to prevent that? NFS 64-bit client crash with 32-bit server

I have an unusual scenario where a new 64-bit multi-core Opteron Centos 4.4client crashes when writing a large file on a 32-bit NFS server. The problem happens on the same client with either Centos 4.4 or SuSE 9.3 32-bit NFS servers. Additionally the problem is reproducible with another identical 64-bit Centos 4.4 client. I'm not certain that the problem is tied to a 32-bit (as opposed to 64-bit) NFS server, but it doesn't happen on a local file system. The crash appears to be some sort of kernel panic, but I don't have the details as physical access to the server isn't easy. The crashes seem to happen when creating files over 2GB in size, but there doesn' seem to be a fixed size that triggers the problem. Sometimes I can get file sizes as high as 3GB before the crash, but it's ususally at the 2.3GB to 2.6GB range that it happens. Are there known issues with Centos 4.4 and NFS that I might be running into? Thanks, Tom

Question with MailScanner?

Hi, I am happily running sendmail with MailScanner on CentOS 4.4. But I have an question. My question is that there are huge number of mails in /var/spool/mqueue.in . Why is that? FastTrack vnc package

The permissions are apparently set incorrectly on the vnc SRPM in the FastTrack repo on mirror; I get "permission denied" when I try to mirror it. Thanks. Josh Kelley

Problems w/ CentOS 4.4 ....

.... I just installed CentOS 4.4 yesterday P.M., on my 2.4 GHz P4 box, Foxconn i865 mbd, 2 GB DDR400 RAM (4 X 512 MB), 1 X 20 GB HDD (hda), 1 X 160 GB HDD (hdb), 1 X LG GSA H22N DVD reader/burner (hdc), 1 X 400 GB HDD (hdd), Coolmax CP500-T PSU. I wiped SuSE 9.2 off of the 20 GB drive & installed CentOS. The other 2 drives were already ext3 FS & will be mounted as /home & /work when I get everything sorted out & going. The install went smoothly, I installed as a server, plus added all of the developement stuff. When I removed the DVD & rebooted, everything was AOK, except that the booted OS apparently didn't see the DVD drive. When I put the DVD back in to add some more software, it never automounted, & I never could get it manually mounted. I pored through dmesg output (& posted to other lists), but no luck. I eventually came up with the following question: Since this is a relatively new burner, could it be that it is unsupported under CentOS 4.4 ? I also googled & searched the archives (manually) this A.M., but no say either way. Sooooooooo: what did I mess up so that CentOS 4.4 can't see the DVD drive that I used to install it :-) ? I have researched the basics yet if I may please get a little help to continue going in the right direction I would be most grateful.
