HP SureStore 40x6e - Multiple LUN's problem on CentOS 4.4

This is one of those autoloaders where the tape drive and the library share a SCSI ID, but are on different LUN's - specifically the library should be on LUN 1. Apparently since so many devices like this are broken, recent kernels don't probe beyond the first LUN, so it's not detecting the library. My /proc/scsi/scsi output: Attached devices: Host: scsi4 Channel: 01 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: MegaRAID Model: LD 0 RAID1 70G Rev: 1L47 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi5 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00 Vendor: HP Model: C5713A Rev: H910 Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 I read somewhere that this shouldn't be a problem with RHEL 4, but I can't seem to get it detected. I tried to add options scsi_mod max_scsi_luns=6 to modprobe.conf and regenerated initrd - no change. Tried adding max_luns=6 max_report_luns=6 to the kernel line in grub.conf, no change. I tried to manually add it by doing: echo "scsi add-single-device 0 0 5 1" > /proc/scsi/scsi but again, no change. Any suggestions? Am I on the right track and just doing something wrong? I know recompiling the kernel is not the best thing, but not sure what to do here. Centos 5 problems on Shuttle XPC

Hi, does somebody else experience booting problems after normal installation on SD32G2 based Shuttle systems. A CentOS 5.0 installation can be performed without any problems but after the first reboot the systems are just stopping the boot process after the grub is searching for the kernel. The last line is some- thing like: [ Linux-initrd @ 0x37db8000, 0x237858 bytes]. We tried already the newest update of the CentOS 5 kernel, the newest centosplus kernel and also FC6 kernel with always the same result. No error message, nothing! Unfortunately we have 15 machines of this type which should be installed with Linux ASAP (and no, I was not asked when somebody else has bought these machines). mime-type change?

I have a recently (last Friday) updated CentOS 4.5 desktop running OOo 2.2 that, since this morning, displays OpenOffice .odt files as application:x-java-archives and has replaced the open office icon on my desktop with the java icon for these files. I have looked in both: /usr/share/mime-info/gnome-vfs.mime and /usr/share/mime-info/file-roller.mime And cannot see any reference to OpenOffice v2 document types at all, or any relation between x-java-archives and odt extensions. Mgetty for out of band management - which modem?

Hi, We're thinking of using Mgetty and a modem to allow us some out of band management access to sites if the ADSL connection fails... Just wondered if anyone had a recommended USB modem they've used on Centos/Mgetty as Hayes compatible serial modems seem to be quite rare these days?

Totem Can't Read .wmv Files

When I try to read a .wmv file, I get the error message: "Totem could not play 'file://tmp/F15.wmv'. You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins.' Granted that I am missing something, what is it, and where do I get it / install it? Thanks in advance -- Bob T.

pam_ldap-184 compile error

I tried to compile pam_ldap-184 but it gave lots of error msgs. BTW, I have successfully compiled nss_ldap-255. Hi, I have been given the task to check on a postfix server that presents the following error: Let's say you use your hotmail account and then send a message to one of my users. The postfix program running on the server responds: Jun 4 10:21:25 mail postfix/smtp[29744]: 553E01079AD: to=<email.elpanama(a)elpanama.com>, relay=localhost[127.0.0.1], delay=54253, status=deferred (host localhost[127.0.0.1] said: 451 Unable to complete command, DNS not available or timed out (in reply to MAIL FROM command)) first, why is giving me a timeout? and second, why in the response the to= field has the domain name? what things can i see in the main.cf? -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Erick Perez ------------------------------------------------------------
