Internet problem

Hey folks ! I am facing the following problems with internet on my acer aspire 2920 laptop running centos 5.2 ; whenever I launch mozilla firefox 3 beta 5 it takes at least one and a half hours just to load the homepage http://www.google.com/ig which in my windows partition takes just under 1 second and also my internet connection is a speedy 256 kbps / up to 2 mbps on BSNL in india .... Quickbooks and Samba and Oplocks... OH MY

It is widely known that Quickbooks has a horrible storage engine, "requires" Windows to host multiuser access, etc. However, I've successfully been storing QuickBooks files on Samba shares at a handful of locations with no real issues other than slight performance degradation. However, a somewhat recent thread here mentioned the proper use of oplock'ing in the Samba configuration to considerably increase performance/reliability. Could someone please share any hints/tips on configuring Samba for optimum use with QuickBooks? I have one server in particular that appears to be suffering performance problems with QuickBooks but runs lightning fast with all other applications. CentOS 5 PPC

There has been some discussion about PPC on this list, and I was looking at the CentOS homepage, and it states that support for the PPC architecture is in progress. Is there actually a V5 (CentOS) PPC download? I have been looking for it on the site without luck. For example http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/isos/ only has i386 and x86_64. I have an old G4 with dual processors I want to breath some life into. d

Hello List I am just wondering if anyone knows if RedHat did realease a power pc version of rhel 4, I have looked around and I see some packages that says that it is for rhel 4 ppc but I am a bit unsure since our suppliers says no there is only for version 5. Kind regards Per Qvindesland

Emergency rescue help needed

Since repeated power cuts last week I've been a bit worried about the state of my server. Today it spontaneously rebooted - but failed to complete. Now it isn't recognising me as a user, by the look of it, so I've got some questions before I do something that might make things worse. I can boot as root, and it appears that all my files are present. System-config-user sees me as user 500, which is correct, so it must be my kde login that is trashed. Foolishly, I didn't install a second desktop system, so I can't deal with things there. While waiting for a reply I'm going to try to get essential files from my home directory onto an external disk (I did a huge backup yesterday of data files). I assume that the hdd is failing - but I haven't seen any messages from smartmontools. Is there any way I can check that? If it is I don't want to waste time trying to repair it. This is the information I gathered from /var/log/messages: shows a host of setroubleshoot messages, culminating in SELinux is preventing dovecot (dovecot_t) "append" to /var/log/mail/mail.info (sendmail_log_t). For complete SELinux messages run..... then syslogd 1.4.1:restart no reason given. Everything then continues as normal until suddenly EXT3-fs error (device sda7): ext3_lookup: unlinked inode 638978 in dir #638977. Lots of 'Last message repeated' messages, and eventualy it shut down. I did allow fsk to run when I restarted the box. That doesn't seem a lot to go on. Any advice? Thanks Anne

Seamonkey and flash-plugin

Hello! I like using Seamonkey; I have v1.1.13 on Centos. It works with flash-plugin-10.0.12.36-release.i386.rpm. On my home computer, I have Fedora Core 9; Seamonkey + flash-plugin used to work with the same version combination above. Unfortunately, I updated Seamonkey to v1.1.15, and every time I go to a site (ex. http://www.wtopnews.com/ ) that's a flash user, Seamonkey crashes. I'd use flashblock but attempts to download it ccomplain of a missing install script. I've tried the latest flash plugin and it crashes Seamonkey. I can use the latest flash plugin with firefox, however. Its been at least a month like that. So -- has anyone gotten 1.1.15 Seamonkey working with the latest flash plugin on Centos? I don't want to update Seamonkey on the Centos box if its not working. Regards, Chip Campbell -- someday I'll have a good signature, I'm sure of it...

fcgi/suexec problem

I have a number of vhosts configured with SuexecUserGroup to run the scripts with limited privileges and the dept. web-site on one of them. The problem is the webmaster can't read online context help which comes with the cms the site is using. Most help files (>2K) have *.php.html extension. *.php and *.html scripts both work as I suspect they should, but when it comes to *.php.html suexec starts complaining (most regular files are 0660 and the webmaster is a member of the group): directory is writable by others file is writable by others file has no execute permission and finally after fixing all the above /var/log/httpd/suexec.log: uid: (10003/web6_www) gid: (10006/10006) cmd: *.php.html /var/www/web6/log/error.log: Premature end of script headers: *.php.html Anybody has a clue how to fix this either in vhost config or any other way around? lvremove killed

hi, My volume group is vg. Inside that i have around 10 lvm partitions (each of 100GB). When I try to remove partitions using lvremove /dev/vg/lvm1 It acts like the machine freezes and after a long time the lvremove process gets killed saying "Killed" Whats wrong here. I don't see anything interesting in /var/log/message Thanks Paras.
