The reason we did not use 64 bits O.S. due to we still have some problem run 64 bit ORACLE on X86_64. I have another question: since server we have is "SMP" how come it can show 32 GB RAM on application like "top" and "free"? Dare we ask why this isn't a 64bit server? using 32gb of memory on a processor architecture that can only directly address 4GB at a time is kind of brutal, unless this server is handling a rather large number of connection sessions at the same time. For instance, a 32bit database server will have a max of about 2.5GB of shared memory usable. to install the hugemem kernel, yum install kernel-hugemem reboot, and test this by selecting it in the grub menu, then adjust /boot/grub.conf to suit. read the release notes carefully on hugemem, its a very high overhead thing, as the kernel runs in a private memory space seperate from the applications, so all kernel<->user transfers are complex and slow. http://www.centos.org/docs/4/html/release-notes/as-x86/

we have CENTOS 4.7 (X86) on DELL server, I already put 32 GB RAM on it. I can use "top" or "free" to check memory and it did show 32 GB. I check REDHAT site and found it say: The "SMP" kernel supports a maximum of 16GB of main memory. Systems with more than 16GB of main memory use the "Hugemem" kernel. I use "uname -r" to check kernel and it show: # uname -r 2.6.9-78.0.13.ELsmp It did NOT show "Hugemem", does this server kernel support 32 GB or not? If NOT how can I change kernel to "hugeme"? liblber-2.3.so.0 and libldap-2.3.so.0 -needed for Php 5.2

I am trying to upgrade Php 5.1 to 5.2, I have added a few repos for yum, but I end up getting two errors: Missing Dependency: libldap-2.3.so.0 is needed by package php-ldap Missing Dependency: liblber-2.3.so.0 is needed by package php-ldap I have openldap 2.4 installed, libldap-2.4.so.2.2.0 and liblber-2.4.so.2.2.0 are present. I know that I could link to these files correct? But would that break any compatibility? Any advice how I can proceed would be really helpful.

Problem with Tomcat

Hi, Tomcat was running well and suddenly stop of working. how to access encrypted EXT3 partition from Windows

Hi all, I know some may find this OT, so please ignore this if you think it's OT. I don't know any Linux-friendly Windows mailing lists / forums that will even bother with Linux related questions. I want to carry some data (client info, documents, photos, email, accounting stuff, etc) with me on a USB HDD, but want to encrypt it. I know one easy way to shared data between Windows & Linux is to save it on a FAT32 partition. But, I can't encrypt FAT32, so instead I'll format the HDD with EXT3 (probably on a LVM as well), and then encrypt it. I also know there are a few good tools for Widows to read EXT3 partitions, but I can't find one that will read encrypted EXT3 partitions (maybe I'm not searching the correct terms?). So, does anyone know how to access (read & write) to EXT3 from Windows? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers

Dear All, Currently i have using RHEL4 Update 4 and CentOS 4.4 Linux PC and GNOME Version is gnome-session-2.8.0 and Scroll Keeper is scrollkeeper-0.3.14 I have implemented my own OMF with the help of Linux yelp command system scroll keeper OMF document . Currently my help will be added to default Help category. How can i add my own help category in gnome help application. Adobe Flash Install Woes

I am having a hell of a time getting adobe flash to work on a recent 5.2 install. >From rpm install: Running firefox as root -- I have verified there is a symlink in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins that points to the actual plugin located in /usr/lib/flash-plugins nada. SoI then copied the plugin directly into /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and eliminated the symlink from the equation. nada. I then installed the plugin into the $HOME/.mozilla/plugins/ directory of a normal user (and making sure everything was read/executable by that user). nada. At no time does the adobe flash pugin ever appear in the plugins panel when viewing Tools->Addons from within the browser. I see no errors or any logs of any kind getting generated anywhere. An rpm check of both firefox and the flash plugin return with no complaints. I see scads of posts on google regarding other adobe flash player woes but none of the solutions i've found so far work. Since most of the sites I require access to, even metalink, required adobe flash this is a show stopper for me. Thanks for any help, CC
