USB Connected Voice Recorders

We plan to use new digital voice recorders. Products are available from Olympus, Sony, and others. All of these digital voice recorders offer file-based audio storage. We would like to take advantage of this feature and move the files to our computers. It is not clear whether there is a difference in the product features described as "USB connection" and "USB direct connection." Is this difference in USB connectivity a concern for file transfer to CentOS computers? Thanks in advance for any information.

C7 and /etc/sysconfig/network

Does Centos 7 use /etc/sysconfig/network or is this replaced by some systemctl set of commands. For example I know to set my host name with: hostnamectl set-hostname nevia.htt-consult.com But I don't know if this is the same as cat <<EOF>/etc/sysconfig/network || exit 1 NETWORKING=yes HOSTNAME=nevia.htt-consult.com EOF

/run and /var/run as tmpfs - how many RPM's broken?

This is pretty much a retorical question, although I would like to know the extent of the problem and how quickly it's gonna be sorted. My problem has already been described in a previous post, i.e. clamd fails after a reboot. The cause apparently is that /run and therefore /var/run has at some point been moved onto tmpfs which means that it doesn't survive a reboot. The effect of this is that any folders (such as /var/run/clamd.* that gets created when RPMs are installed don't survive, and the first time the server is rebooted things get broken. Googling the problem has shown at least a couple of other packages now experiencing the same problem. including from memory pcp and MongoDB. (BTW, I'm still receiving emails from that too good to be true young lady)

Hello Everyone, My grub.conf is as following. title Linux Init Break kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda6 ro rootwait break=y initrd /initrd.gz What I expect is by adding *break=y* to cmdline, init will pause early in the boot process and launch an interactive sh shell which can be used for troubleshooting purposes. But kernel is disregarding break=y. And it loads up without launching sh shell. Is it the right way to launch interactive shell ? Thanks Sachin

echo password into bash script

Hey guys, I'm trying to echo my password into some commands inside of a bash script. But I think I'm going about it incorrectly. Compile for C6 / glibc

In the hope that some skilled developers are here: We have a commercial product that do not run under CentOS6 /lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found Is it possible to compile software (compile switch?) on a system that uses a newer glibc but in such a way that can be used (executed) on a system with an older glibc (like here: compiled on glibc 2.14 based system but C6 is on 2.12)? -- Thanks LF

Software Collections

What's CentOS's policy on keeping up with RHEL software collections releases? It looks like just the 1.0 release is available on CentOS. 1.1, 1.2, and 2.0 have been released on the RHEL side. Where's My CD/DVD?

Hello, I recently upgraded from CentOs 6.6 to 6.7 and among others oddities, my CD/DVD drive has disappeared from the system. it lights up when I insert a disc and appears to be reading, but that's it. Any thoughts? Many thanks! -steve
