Make USB bootable drive: Rufus

Had seen various folks ask about how to do this (I did mine long ago and far away to make my Windows machine dual-bootable to Win or CentOS) and while looking for some HD repair diagnostics, ran across this and thought it may be useful to some folks. http://rufus.akeo.ie/ I've not yet used it, but it looks easy. YMMV, of course, as may mine! :-) Bill

rpmbuild dwz error

CentOS, I'm not sure where to ask this, please let me know if there is a more appropriate place. On CentOS 7, I'm building a large C++ package with rpmbuild. Arachne (https://www.broadinstitute.org/crd/wiki/index.php/Arachne_Main_Page). During the debuginfo extraction stage, I get the following error: + /usr/lib/rpm/find-debuginfo.sh --strict-build-id -m --run-dwz --dwz-low-mem-die-limit 10000000 --dwz-max-die-limit 110000000 /home/andrew/rpmbuild/BUILD/arachne-46233 dwz: Multifile temporary files too large cpio: /builddir/build/BUILD/glibc-2.17-c758a686/math: Cannot stat: No such file or directory cpio: arachne-46233/src/Calculator.cc: Cannot stat: No such file or directory cpio: arachne-46233/src/Calculator.y: Cannot stat: No such file or directory 36150 blocks rpmbuild/dwz appear to be using /var/tmp for large temporary debug info files. This package generates over 30GB of debug data and I think it is filling up /var/tmp leading to the error. How can I tell rpmbuild to use an alternative temporary file location? Thanks, -Andrew

Grub legacy on Centos 7

Hello Everyone, We have centos6 server. And we are planning to upgrade it to Centos7.And GRUB 2 needs a new bios grub partition. Creating a new partition is too much risky. I am wondering if it is possible to replace Grub2 with Grub legacy on Centos7 machine? Thanks!! Sachin

fsck mdraid root partition

There are some errors on my root filesystem, so I need to fsck it. In order to do this while the filesystem is unmounted, I'm booting from the install disk. However, since the filesystem is on an mdraid device, I'm not sure of the right way to get it assembled so I can check it. If I do, mdadm --examine --scan, then I get this: ARRAY /dev/md/2 metadata=... (and others, but I'm only interested in md2 at this point) It shows as /dev/md/2, while it is called /dev/md2 if I boot into the OS. If I do this: mdadm --assemble --scan /dev/md/2 I assume it will assemble it. Is it going to cause and problems assembling it under a different name in order to run the fsck? Should I rather force it to have the same name like this: mdadm --assemble /dev/md2 /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 if that will even work? Thanks, -- Bowie

"UMask=0002" ignored in httpd service file

Hi, I'm trying to get Apache httpd to create new files with the group writable bit set and thought adding the directive "UMask=0002" to the service section of the service file would be enough (after copying it to /etc/systemd/system). But after a systemctl daemon-reload followed by a service restart files are still created as "-rw-r--r--" instead of the expected "-rw-rw-r--". Does anyone have an idea what is missing here or how I can debug why the directive is apparently ignored? Regards, Dennis

Hello everybody, I just got the email about the enforcing of HTTPS for the CentOS Websites which I really appreciate: „The CentOS Project infra team has decided to implement TLS wherever we can (…)” Does anybody know if and when mail.centos.org will be able to deliver its mails with STARTTLS? There seems to be no support for STARTTLS at all: $: openssl s_client -connect mail.centos.org:25 -starttls smtp (…) didn't found starttls in server response, try anyway...

CentOS 7 PV kernel

HI, Is the CentOS 7 PV kernel available? I installed latest CentOS 7 & I found out that it is a HVM guest. So, if we wanted to have CentOS PV guest for CentOS 7, is there any specific steps to follow? or the same kernel will work as both PV & HVM? -- Thanks & Regards, Venkateswara Rao Dokku.
