I am trying to use sed to change a value in a pipe. ------------------- This is the two line script CHANGE="1234" cat my_file.txt | sed 's/CANCELID/$CHANGE/' > cancel.txt ------------------- and the my_file.txt has: <v1:notificationId>CANCELID</v1:notificationId> it gets changed to $CHANGE instead of the actual value 1234 . I tried putting a \ in front of the $ also and made no difference. What am I not doing correctly. Thanks, jerry

smartctl of usb backup drive

On a headless C7 server (actually a pogoplug with the Redsleeve 7 distro), I have a usb attached backup drive (what other type of drives can you have on a pogoplug other than usb? :) ). I looked at the manpage and I don't know how to figure out what usb bridge to specify. BTW, if anyone has an old pogoplug sitting around, I am putting together my cookbook on how to gain control of it and put a c7 build on it. I plan on having it part of a sernet AD domain as the backup file server (2.5W for the pogo and 4-7W for the drive).

Me again, I'm still building my new mail server and I'm struggling getting clamav and exim to talk to each other. Nor does /etc/clam.conf. /etc/clam.d is empty Results from Google seem to come up with conflicting solutions, but most seem to want to use amavisd which I don't. Are there anywhere simple instructions on just using clamav and EXIM on Centos 7?

CentOS 6.6 - reshape of RAID 6 is stucked

Hello I have a CentOS 6.6 Server with 13 disks in a RAID 6. Some weeks ago, i upgraded it to 17 disks, two of them configured as spare. The reshape worked like normal in the beginning. But at 69% it stopped. md2 : active raid6 sdj1[0] sdg1[18](S) sdh1[2] sdi1[5] sdm1[15] sds1[12] sdr1[14] sdk1[9] sdo1[6] sdn1[13] sdl1[8] sdd1[20] sdf1[19] sdq1[16] sdb1[10] sde1[17](S) sdc1[21] 19533803520 blocks super 1.2 level 6, 1024k chunk, algorithm 2 [15/15] [UUUUUUUUUUUUUUU] [=============>.......] reshape = 69.0% (1347861324/1953380352) finish=46103134.8min speed=0K/sec I already tried to stop the raid and start it again, the reshape will start but stop again after some minutes. Cannot print on Centos 6.7

Hello everyone, I have been scouring the Internet for answers, wikipages, non-Centos pages, and I am stumped. I have a HP LaserJet P4014n. When I plugged it in via USB cable, it found it as a P4014, but in any case, it simply wouldn't print, so I deleted it, and tried to start from scratch. When I manually add the printer, it seems all is well, but it won't print a test page. Fedora 9 -> Centos 7 upgrade Dovecot problem

Hi all, I'm upgrading my old F9 mail server to Centos 7 and all is going well. However, I've got a problem with recently created users. I've rsync'd /home and /var/spool/mail after moving /etc/passwd and /etc/group I used the default locations on the old F9 server, i.e. mail delivered to /var/spool/mail/%u by EXIM and Dovecot using that as the inbox. Dovecot then used ~/mail/ as it's folder dir. On the new server this works fine for any user where ~/mail/ already exists, but for any user where ~/mail/ does not exist Dovecot fails. I've done some googling and have tried a number of settings, the most popular one being mail_location = mbox:~/:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u However, I haven't managed to fix the problem. Anyone know what I need to do next? Below hopefully is enough for someone to see what I've got wrong. They're done with mail_location set to the default, i.e. commented out in 10-mail.conf I've also put the log file up at http://www.stainburn.com/centos.log which should be easier to read. cpage is an established user, tdegg is a new one. As I say below, I have found a work-around but even that still has errors. perl-Net-SCP on Centos 7

As part of building my new mail server, I'm installing the RPMS to match my old server. However, I can't find a perl-Net-SCP RPM for this version. Can someone point me to where I can get it, preferrably a repo that I can use that has it. I have found perl-Net-SCP-0.08-1.el6.rf.noarch.rpm. As a last resort I could localinstall that. Would it have any nasty side effects? Gary

[security] Thunderbird vulnerable to MITM

Thunderbird has a MITM vulnerability with its otherwise rather groovy auto-configuration feature. The problem is that it makes requests via HTTP to retrieve the auto configuration information. This allows a black hat (e.g. the NSA) to modify the results sent to the client, and the client has no way to verify the results have not been tampered with. This could even allow the black hat to act as a proxy for quite some time and the client may never know. This vulnerability is not something that can just be patched without breaking most auto-configuration. I have what I think is a solution to the problem, but I think it needs further review - and it needs someone who actually has the right contacts in the software and hosting worlds to get it implemented. That's not me, I don't really like most people and the feeling tends to be mutual. Anti-social issues aside, I do think this needs to be fixed. https://librelamp.com/FooBird#security has what I think would be the easiest solution while keeping the ability to auto-configure stuff.

CentOS 7 - Limiting rescue kernel imeges

Host does not respond to nmap

Hey Y'all, I just set up a new old machine on my network. I did a net install of CentOS 6.7 on it replacing an outdated copy of Win XP. Of course I'm now in the throws of configuring the machine to be a useful member of society. I even copied the FAH configuration file from 192.168.15.105 to 192.168.15.107 and then restarted the client. Still no joy in Mudville. I figure I should quit while I'm behind.
