This US gov't agency (which I work for as a contractor), has (after much work in other directions, has apparently thrown them out, who knows, they may change their (alleged) minds again), and trust me, all of the *Nix servers here, that are doing *serious* scientific research, are not going away. The mail system has been Exchange all along, but with deciding to go to Oriface 365, they have determined a policy that with that migration, they are going to *not* *run* IMAP (they could if they wanted to). Without IMAP, I'm going to have to either a) bring in the laptop that runs WinDoze (that sits at home for emergencies), and is theirs, and run that to read my freakin' email (and I suppose I'll need synergy for when I have to copy and paste)l b) run the damn webmail client, which would impact my productivity by 15%-20%, given that I normally deal with over 200 emails per day (2/3rds log files from out loghost, or logcheck). Webmail will make it take probably twice as long to deal with, or c) find a way to install and run Lookout, er, Outlook 365 under wine, or whatever. Now, not that I haven't been annoyed at t-bird for several years now, but webmail or outlook would be miserable... and I don't remember if webmail lets me search, etc. Does this make more sense? I don’t recommend forwarding any other ports to the Internet, if you can possibly get away with it. SSH can do its own port forwarding, which reduces your VM’s attack surface from the Internet. With SSH acting as a poor-man’s VPN, an attacker would have to break SSH before they can get into any of your internal VM’s other services. Not exactly linux-dependent. According to the docs for the Latitude 620 (available on dell dot com), the wireless switch is on the left side. Slide it towards the front, until its raised position indicator is aligned with the I ("off" is aligned with the O). The WiFi power indicator is on the front panel, in a group with about 4 LEDs... the WiFi indicator appears to actually *say* "WiFi" when it's lit up. I recently installed CentOS 7 32-bit on a Dell Latitude 620 and my WiFi doesn't work. The software setting show me stuck in "Airplane Mode" and I need to activate my WiFi with a "hardware switch" I am new to Linux and need some direction here. I believe the wireless card is an Intel Pro/Wireless 3645A/G. Thanks, Tim

Centos & USB3

I replaced my development machine with 6 cores, 32 GB etc. I thought it would be simply inserting the existing HDDs and changing /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-eth0 but, * in the UEFI "BIOS" USB2 and USB3 work. * in C5.11 USB2 works but USB3 does not. * in C6.5 (my install disk; OS be updated to C6.8) USB2 works but USB3 does not. On both C5 and C6 lsusb shows an entry for the plugged-in keyboard (USB2 socket) and for the wireless mouse (USB2 socket) but nothing else. Please does anyone have any ideas how to solve this baffling time-consuming problem ? Is is a UEFI (motherboard Asrock 970A-G/3.1) configuration matter or potentially the absence of a suitable USB3 driver for Centos ? Thank you. -- Regards, Paul. England, EU. I swear I've done this dozens of times: a new server, going to install (CentOS 7, in this case), and I manually partition the disk before the install using parted, and do mkpart pri 0.0GB +1.0GB Except now it appears to be saying it doesn't like the +1.0GB, I *think* it's the plus sign. mark
