yum history list

Hi List, I have several workstations all with exactly the same OS versions, kernels + yum versions; CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core) kernel.x86_64 3.10.0-327.28.3.el7 yum.noarch 3.4.3-132.el7.centos.0.1 running a 'yum history list' command produces different outputs on some workstations, I haven't changed any yum configurations. Workstation A: yum history list Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks ID | Login user | Date and time | Action(s) | Altered Workstation B: yum history list Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks ID | Command line | Date and time | Action(s) | Altered Any clue as to why I have different fields being output? I see in the yum manual: In "history list" you can change the behaviour of the 2nd column via the configuration option history_list_view. But I'm unsure how I can adjust the columns. Any clues would be much appreciated, Thanks, Michael

Recommendation about an usb wireless adapter to use it as HostAP

Hi all, I would like to install/test CentOS 7.X as a hostap for my home. I am thinking to use an Alfa (http://www.alfa.com.tw) usb wireless adapter or TP-Link. BUt there is not much information in Alfa's or TP-Link's web sites about which of them can run as a HostAP. If I can find any adapter that supports ac with a throughput of 150 Mbps/300Mbps, it would be great. Any recommendation? Maybe AWUS036ACH and TP-TLW722N can supports this functionality, but I am not sure ... Thanks. -- Greetings, C. L. Martinez

I'm not a 'power user' or some corporate IT guy, just a home user that's been around for a while. Been with Redhat since 2.0, guess I'm the little fish in the big ocean. Guess I'll move on to another distribution or back to Fortran and developing statistical models for the CIA/DIA Thank you, happy to help!!

DNF update

I was searching tonight how to update OLD systems. I have C5 and C6 systems that need updating and they are remote systems. I followed the paths and ended up at DNF. Is this a valid option for updating C5 and C6 to take them to C7? Thanks, Jerry

CentOS 7 AMIs and deletion of root volumes on AWS when terminating instances

Hi, We have noticed that the CentOS 7 AMIs in AWS do not delete their root volumes on termination. It appears this is the way that the AMIs were created. The AWS Linux AMIs appear to have this enabled. So they do delete their root volumes on termination. Does anyone know why the CentOS AMIs are created so that they don't delete their root volumes on termination? Herc

NetworkManger wireless issues - "Failed to load root certificates"/"unable to get local issuer certificate"

Hi, I'm trying to connect my CentOS 6.8 laptop to the wireless net at work, which is secured with WPA2 and AES. I've done this successfully in the past using NetworkManager, but a new safety feature was recently introduced: A CA certificate is required. After this, I've not been able to connect. I have a DER format file, whose path I've entered in CA certificate: in the NetworkManager security page, but apparently, this isn't enough; NetworkManager will try for a while, then pop up the security/login dialog again. Maybe this means I have to provide additional certificate info somewhere, somehow, but what would be the exact nature of the data, and where do I put it? I googled for some of the error messages and found that others have had similar issues, but the feedback given to them left me none the wiser. Actually, wpa_supplicant.conf updates are mentioned in some cases, but they appear to be related to information that I thought would be provided by NetworkManager in this case. So, does anyone know more about this? What certificate or certificate configuration files should I need in addition to what's specified in the NetworkManager config? What else may be wrong? Any help will be appreciated. - Toralf

devtoolset-3 application execution

Its seems challenging to maintain applications with a long term vision. For EL6 I want to use devtoolset-3-gcc-c++-4.9.2-6.2.el6.x86_64 to compile some binaries. Here my question: will the binaries execute flawless on a plain EL6 system without additional libraries (stdc++ etc.)? Example: scl enable devtoolset-3 'rpmbuild -ba local-app1.spec' -- Thanks, LF

how to limit cpu usage for specified processes

Hi, Is there some tool or method in centos that can limit cpu usage to some percentage for specified processes that consume large cpu resource? I found cpulimit which is only able to limit one process. what I want is one tool that can limit several same processes' cpu usage. Thanks! Regards andrew
