Apache 2.2 on CentOS 5 and name-based SSL virtual hosts?

name-based virtual hosts with SSL (*) work fine with Apache 2.0 on CentOS 4 and I know from someone that he uses a self-compiled Apache 2.2 on CentOS 4 and this works fine for him as well. So, Apache 2.2 should still have this functionality. But testing this on CentOS 5 with the Apache 2.2 coming with it is not working for me. Has anyone tested this already? Does it work for you? I fear the build for RHEL/CentOS 5 may be missing a build parameter or so that is necessary to enable this. (*) using the same wildcard certificate for all SSL virtual hosts on the same IP-no:port combination, of course. nmbd dead but pid file exists

I'm having a lot of problems with nmbd quitting while I'm working. 'service smb status' shows samba running, but 'nmbd dead but pid file exists'. Log files show lines like nmbd/nmbd.c:reload_interfaces(229) reload_interfaces: No subnets to listen to. Shutting down... Googling hasn't come up with anything helpful. Has anyone any idea what is happening and what I can do about it? Anne

Flushing RAM contents?

A user wants to time a command/program/application and ensure the full contents of that command's data management has been flushed from RAM/cache and saved to disk. Is there a way to ensure the cache/RAM is flushed to disk, or is the flushing a function of the kernel or the application? This happens to be on a 64-bit Intel system with 64-bit CentOS 5, fully patched. But even if the system were an out-of-box 64-bit install, unpatched, would it make a difference? Thanks. Scott

Folding@Home

Hi, I seem to not be able to connect to the folding site and receive new work. Anyone else having this issue? Port 8080 is open as well as the other web ports on the firewall. I can ping the host but get nothing when I open a web browser to it. Anyone else having the same issues? Network Installation of CentOS disk image via PXE

Hello all, I've deployed new servers - installing new CentOS servers via PXE booting using its iso distribution stored on an NFS server. For certain server types; I'd like to install custom applications into a server and then generate an image of that server, and deploy again via PXE to another group of servers. Wanted to find out if anyone can forward any pointers to papers or links on: 1. Best and (cheapest) way to create disk image (that can be used for over the network installation over PXE) of an existing CentOS server with all its custom apps and packages ... would this be dd? would this take a long time? 2. Would like to find out if you can point me to a guide or doc - that specifically describes this process; most PXE install notes out there describe the PXE config setup and assumes an ISO image (to create a new server), as opposed to deploying a "ghosted" image of an existing server. 3. In a deployment of a "ghosted" image - would the DHCP automatically request for a new IP address upon completion of the installation on the target machine (since when I ghost the source machine, the network information will contain that source's machine IP address, MAC, etc. etc.) Thanks in advance .. -- best, Vince

NFS Exporting / not working ???

I'm fairly certain I'm not losing my mind, but.... I'm a very recent convert from fedora 7 to Centos 5. I had the / filesystem exported and it worked fine. Installed Centos, dropped the very same exports file I was using successfully into /etc, restarted nfs, and it won't allow anyone to access. If you mount it from a different system, the mount succeeds, but no files or directories show up and the ls just sort of dies a slow death. I managed to get it to work with samba, but nfs just won't happen. What am I missing? Turning Wireless Radio on and off: how?

Hi all, I've got a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a Broadcom 1390 Wlan mini card (integrated) wireless lan chipset. I've got an init script setup to activate the wireless connection at boot time, however when the system boots the adapter doesn't connect. I'm not able to get a connection until after the desktop is done loading and I run the script from the command line. After some log review apparently as the system is booting the radio for the wireless lan card is "off", so I need to know how to turn the wireless radio on just before the init script for the adapter fires off. How can I turn on/off the wireless lan radio? I'm using ndiswrapper and the dell windows driver for this wireless card. thanks, Mark

upgrade perl 5.8.0 -> 5.8.1

Hello List, I have a few intel centos 3.9 boxes with perl-5.8.0-94.EL3 installed. This seems like a very early version of 5.8 perl. centos 4.6 has 5.8.1. Would it be sensible to just upgrade to this rpm? I want a stable platform for cgi. I suppose I could just try it, but these boxes are under a form of change control and I think I should ask for advice before going that route. Many thanks for any advice, Tony
