FW: problem in Authentication.

I have a setup with Cyrus Imap and SASL authentication. + Postfix I am getting following error on maillog. May 16 11:40:38 mail pop3[7641]: badlogin: [192.168.1.68] plaintext matthew_sullivan SASL(-13): authentication failure: checkpass failed May 16 11:40:38 mail pop3[7640]: badlogin: [192.168.1.69] plaintext duncan SASL(-13): authentication failure: checkpass failed May 16 11:52:04 mail pop3[7713]: badlogin: [192.168.1.114] plaintext s.kim SASL(-13): authentication failure: checkpass failed May 16 11:52:04 mail pop3[7650]: badlogin: [192.168.1.52] plaintext sajiv SASL(-13): authentication failure: checkpass failed The system was up about 1 year and I never faced this problem. Also I haven't changed any settings in the configuration. Does anyone have a link for a recent comparison between groupware servers? solved cups error 426 was cups error 426 when accessing admin functions

Hi, Found a howto doc on my error 426 issue with cups. The fix was to disable encryption in cups 1.2.4 add DefaultEncryption Never to cupsd.conf and that did it. I'd like to have encryption on the admin area, but for home use i'll take it. On another subject does anyone know if the Cups book is available as a pdf file? Thanks. Dave.

If maximum Reliability is the goal, look at the MTBF in the specifications. If the Design Engineers have done their job, and the Manufacturing Engineers maintain high Quality Control, the result should be a quality component. As has been pointed out in this thread, RAID is *not* a substitute for backups. RAID is intended to keep the box up and running. Hi, I'm a 40-year old sysadmin living in Montpezat, a small village in the sunny south of France. I'm a Linux user since 2001, when I made my first steps on a 486 with a Slackware 7.1 CD. I've tried maybe two dozen distributions, but I've stayed mostly with Slackware and Debian. Since last summer, I work as a sysadmin for our "Communauté de Communes", a group of 16 villages, where I care for computers and installs of town halls and public libraries. I've configured a LAMP server in a datacenter, running Debian Sarge, and all clients in town halls and libraries are running Debian Etch, a highly stripped-down and personalized GNOME desktop with just a handful of apps needed for work. I've fiddled with CentOS before, around when 4.3 came out, and it was a close second in the choice of OS here. Had 5.0 been out at the time, I would gladly have chosen it. I've discussed the subject with Daniel de Kok, a fellow ex-Slacker and friend, and he's told me so many good things about the latest release of CentOS that I'm now seriously considering replacing my Debian installs with CentOS. I have an armada of PCs that i can fiddle with, and I've currently installed two different versions of CentOS, one as minimal as I could, one with a default GNOME desktop. On my personal laptop I have the Red Hat Deployment Guide, as well as some more CentOS-specific docs. I have a list of 40 or so items that I will have to take care of in the following days or weeks, maybe months: "minimal install?", "yum?", "configure wireless rt2500, rt61, ipw3945?", "find extra repos for multimedia stuff?", etcetera. I just went to take a peek at IRC, and "Arrfab" told me the main communication channel for CentOS was this mailing list. Cheers from France, Niki Kovacs -- Dyslexics have more fnu.

Hi All, I have two identical computers with CentOS 5.0 and lampp installed. Are there any high-availability solution for CentOS? So, when one one computer offline, another could act as a backup and being transparent to user. Regards, Tong

GRUB and vga=788

Hi, On a minimal (e. g. without X) server install, one of the first things I do is add 'vga=788' to the 'kernel' line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, so I can use the framebuffer in 800x600 mode and have a better readability in console mode. However, I tried this on my minimal CentOS 5 install, and right after GRUB, the screen just blanks. I add that this (test) machine ran maybe a dozen other distros before, and the 'vga=788' line always did the trick. Any suggestions? Niki Kovacs -- Dyslexics have more fnu.

Trying to install CentOS 4.4 as a domU

Hi all, Few days ago I installed a CentOS 5 domU on a xen-box with CentOS 5 dom0 also. All worked fine; I used virt-install assistant and I created a local http repo for increase the process speed. I've tried to do the same with CentOS 4.4 domU, but always I get an error relationated with unavailable HTTP resource. It's curious... so I downloaded the x86_64 complete DVDs for 5 and 4.4 releases and I put all their containts into a local http server. I've not any problem when I use the http://local_ip/5_repo/ resource, but I always get the commented error if I use the http://local_ip/44_repo ¿Why? Obviously I've checked the DVD integrity for several times. My local http repos are exactly the same than the public http repos shows. -- Thanks, Jordi Espasa Clofent

Centos 5 killing applications

I recently upgraded from CentOS4 to CentOS5, and now I have applications that suddenly close/die. Did not have any problem under 4.x Applications that crash regularly. Claws mail [compiled under CentOS5] VMware 5.5.4 workstation rpm, same with 5.5.3 rpm I see nothing in /var/log/messages. In vmware-0.log I have: May 11 00:18:56: vmx| * May 11 00:18:56: vmx| * The UI terminated unexpectedly. May 11 00:18:56: vmx| * If you file a bug or support request about this issue, May 11 00:18:56: vmx| * please include log and core file(s) from the UI if May 11 00:18:56: vmx| * available. May 11 00:18:56: vmx| * May 11 00:18:56: vmx| Unable to continue without a UI. Any suggestion on what's causing the crashes.
