How to know which process is eating the cpu

Hi friends, We are using centos4.0 on Dell Machines. Everytime we use top command on one of the systems, we see system usage is b/w 75.-80% and we are not able to trace who is eating this much system cpu. 02:00:06 up 13 days, 5:39, 3 users, load average: 7.12, 7.25, 7.34 76 processes: 68 sleeping, 6 running, 0 zombie, 2 stopped CPU states: cpu user nice system irq softirq iowait idle total 24.4% 0.0% 75.5% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% cpu00 26.4% 0.0% 73.6% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% cpu01 22.4% 0.0% 77.5% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% Mem: 6161704k av, 4758088k used, 1403616k free, 0k shrd, 103108k buff 2184012k actv, 1792248k in_d, 100068k in_c Swap: 2530196k av, 8k used, 2530188k free 3143184k cached Is there any command or utility through which we can know who is using how much cpu resources? %include command in Kickstart

I have a kickstart file that basically runs the following: install nfs --server=nfserver.blah.local --dir=/vol/updts/staging/CentOS_4.3 #include %some_file.cfg I want to be able to access or "include" a file on the nfs share not the local CDROM I've got this on. How do I do that? === Al

reboot long uptimes?

Hi, I was just wondering if I should reboot some servers that are running over 180 days? They are still stable and have no problems, also top shows no zombie processes or such, but maybe it's better for the hardware (like ext3 disk checks f.e.) to reboot every six months... btw this uptime really confirms me how stable Centos 4.x really is and so I wonder how long some people's uptimes on the list are ;) rmc

How do I burn a CD image under CentOS?

I use fwbuilder. ext3 filesystem performance question

Hi, I'm running centos-4.4 on an SMP system with 4 dual core opterons (2.4 GHz), and 16 GB memory. The disk drives are 500 GB SATA-Drives. Wondering about times for dd command performance and rm command performance in an empty machine (the filesystem has been made with "mkfs.ext3 /dev/sd...", nothing more) 1. Making a new 3 GB (1024 x 3megabytes blocks) file with dd needs 10.18 sec wallclock time: taskset 1 time dd if=/dev/zero bs=3M count=1024 of=~backes/xxxxx 1024+0 records in 1024+0 records out 0.00user 10.02system 0:10.18elapsed 98%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k 0inputs+0outputs (0major+187minor)pagefaults 0swaps 2. Help regarding DVD burning in multi session

Dear All, I am burning DVD using growisofs command and -M option for multi session burning. Command is executing properly but when I try to mount dvd, it is displaying error and error no is 32. Therefore, I am not able to view the DVD contents. If I try to read same written DVD on Win-XP, I am able to view it all records. Can u tell me where I am making mistake. I am using the following command: growisofs -Z /dev/DVD -R -J <DATA> //for first time dvd burn growisofs -M /dev/DVD -R -J <Data> //for next burning Thanks in advance. best Regards S.Balaji

Kickstart and NFS

I want to be able to do a kickstart utilizing nfs, but w/o the need of a dhcp server. Is that possible? Perhaps one can assign an IP address when invoking the linux ks=nfs.... command. === Al
