I used firestarter to get a base configuration, then I used webmin's built-in "Linux firewall" setup module. php version 4.4 / ez publish

Hi list, is there any repository on this world where I can stick to and update to a stable and hopefully secure and hopefully long supported version 4.4 of php? EZ publish's software requirements as of the current version tells me that it requires php 4.4 which doesn't meet what Centos 4.4 or its upstream provides. For a certain project I want to use ez publish. Is there any solution you see for that? Install a seperate server for that? (That's the least I wanna do). Or _does_ it work with php 4.3 under centos 4.4? Any experience? Linux on a Thinkpad R40

I've just acquired a use IBM Thinkpad R40 model 2722-GDM. I'm contemplating what to run on it, and longer-term the likely candidates are: Centos 5 SLE{D,S} 10 OpenSUSE 10.2 Kubuntu - the latest. Kubuntu - Long Life (aka 6.04, Dapper, ...) I've booted Knoppix 4 in it and most seems well, including the Atheros Wireless card Windows can't find. The major flies in the ointment are the wireless and the inbuilt modem (Agere something). Google tells me the modem can be made to work, and I'm pretty sure from my Acer that the Atheros wifi also work with some minor fiddling: I've build the driver from source. The problem is, I've done enough fiddling* over the years. I've built enough kernels, attaced enough configuration files with vim, and I want an OS that just works. I'm sure RHEL 5 will not have a driver for my wireless, and I suspect not for my modem. Now the point: do the auxilliary CentOS repos have the missing bits so that I can commit to CentOS4 (or even RHEL5 beta) in the short term, knowing that it's a simple upgrade later? How will CentOS reflect the different RHEL 5 versions? Will it simply merge them into one product, or would one expect to choose different boot media? I ask this because I see SLED doesn't have some of the stuff I want - it's in SLES though, but then SLES doesn't have the madwifi stuff. * There's fiddling and there's fiddling. I'm getting tired of doing the same fiddling all the time; it's time for new adventures. Forgive my newbieness here, but how do I install the xfs module (and xfsprogs) once I have the rpms? I've never used rpm before this much, so I'm out of my depth here (but willing to plunge in :-). Fritzcard with CentOS 4.4

Hello list, I have bought an AVM Fritzcard PCI DSL SL (rev01) last week. Now I try to get it work without success. I figured out that currently udev and capi don´t work proper. Already I tried to solve my problem with several howtos. But also without succes so far. My general question: Is there a fix or solution for this? Thanks for help! Kamill

Here's the checklist I have so far: 1 - /home partition - separate drive 2 - Files copied to the second drive: /etc/X11/xorg.conf rpm for RPM forge /etc/yum - entire folder /etc/yum/repos.d - entire folder /etc/yum.conf /etc/yumex.conf /etc/yumex.profiles.conf 3 - Files installed via Yum(ex) - Hmmm, need to figure this one out. chown command goof up

Basically, what I typed was: chown -R user2:user2 * chown -R user2:user2 .* chown -R user2:user2 *.* ...all in /home. Duh. I forgot which way recursive went. So, I then did: chown -R root:root * chown -R root:root .* chown -R root:root *.* ...this time in / to try and f things. Duh again. Other items need to have other owners & groups. So, how can I fix this? In MacOSX, there is a utility to fix all permissions on the system. Is there a similar item in CentOS? Here's what I originally wanted to do: Started with user1. Got everything setup just right. Then created user2. I wanted to use all the settings, mail, etc. from user1 for user2. My thought was to just copy everything in /home/user1 to /home/user2, then use chown on all of the files. This is where I got myself into this pickle... Any ideas? -- --- David Woyciesjes

R1000 Driver for RTL8110SC NIC on Biostar I945G-M7

Executive Summary: Realtek has an r1000 driver for the rtl8110sc NIC at http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads I've posted this in the forums but it looks like all the action for CentOS really happens here on the mailing list. Plus I hope this might help some other lost soul since google failed to connect this motherboard to *any* mention of the r1000. I thought I found a great little motherboard in the Biostar I945G-M7 V.2 for a new HD-capable MythTV frontend box I'm putting together. Imagine my dismay when the CentOS 4.4 installer did not recognize the on-board NIC. I haven't had this happen for *years* when installing on new hardware. Biostar's documentation (*and* their tech-support!) states that this M/B has an RTL8100 on-board. However, once I installed CentOS from DVD, 'lspci -v' revealed: 02:05.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169SC Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10) Subsystem: Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp: Unknown device 2304 Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 209 I/O ports at de00 [size=256] Memory at fdeff000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2 Once I compiled and installed the r1000 on kernel 2.6.9-42.0.8, loading the driver yielded: eth1: Identified chip type is 'RTL8110SC'. eth1: r10001.05, the Linux device driver for Realtek Ethernet Controllers at 0xde00, 00:e0:4d:04:e8:c3, IRQ 209 Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter Driver version:1.05 Released date:2006/10/25 I checked another host that has a more recent 2.6.18.6 kernel and confirmed that it does *not* have the r1000. So I guess the r1000 isn't part of the kernel yet.
