CentOS on Fujitsu Hardware

Alle, I was wondering if anyone is using 4.X on any Fujitsu Primergy hardware and what type of experience they've had. WARNING: Kernel Errors Present in logwatch

Hi, yesterday my linux machine gave me some smartd errors so i checked the disk in another machine and it had defective sectors, I installed a new hard disk on the original machine. Today this is being reported in logwatch. I have a Maxtor (200gig) as hda, a cdrom as hdc and another hard disk that is used for storage as hdd. linux sockets on centos (slightly off topic)

Hi all, I have a snippit from the linux sockets (below) talking about detecting when a socket is closed on the other end. It says the doing a read() will eventually inform you the socket is ECONNRESET. I am not seeing this I open a socket to the peer. I UNPLUG the peer. I plug back in the peer. all the time I am doing read()'s on linux and I get returns of -1 and errno is EINTR from the alarm() around my read() function. I never get ECONNRESET. Am I missing something in detecting the peer no longer having the socket connection? From Andrew Gierth ( andrew(a)erlenstar.demon.co.uk) AFAIK: If the peer calls close() or exits, without having messed with SO_LINGER, then our calls to read() should return 0. It is less clear what happens to write() calls in this case; I would expect EPIPE, not on the next call, but the one after. If the peer reboots, or sets l_onoff = 1, l_linger = 0 and then closes, then we should get ECONNRESET (eventually) from read(), or EPIPE from write(). I should also point out that when write() returns EPIPE, it also raises the SIGPIPE signal - you never see the EPIPE error unless you handle or ignore the signal. If the peer remains unreachable, we should get some other error.

Good value for /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes

Hi, what would be a good value for /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes on a Dual-CPU EM64T System with 8 GB of memory. Kernel is 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp. I know that the default might be a bit low. Unfortunatelly the documentation is a bit weak in this area. We are experiencing responsiveness problems (and higher than expected load) when the system is under combined memory+network+disk-IO stress. Up2Date and yum failing

I have 2 new servers built from 4.3 isos. I want to update them but cannot do that because of update issues: Up2date fails because of a several dependency issues. yum update fails because of a problem with the au mirrors. yum can find the mirrors but not the headers. Cheers

Anyone running centos with an iscsi filesystem mounted? If so: What version of centos? Which iscsi package? What filesystem are you using on the mount? Does it perform like you'd expect? Thanks, peter

X Error: Nvidia Onboard - Supermicro

Howdy all, Any recommendation as to the right way to config X. Last time I did was using X86Setup back in OpenBSD 2.7 days. What's the Xorg tool? How do I invoke it? Looks like I just need to fix the ranges, maybe they mean sync vert & horiz or something. Or should I be typing gdm instead of startx? Anyone using pam_ldap ? need clarifications

Hi list, I'm using a SSH gateway where our users are authenticated against an openldap server. It's working great and the users can also change their password with the 'passwd' command. My problem is that recently I've tested our users's password for weak entries (with john the ripper) and found that all the password changed with 'passwd' and thus pam_ldap where stored in the directory in cleartext form instead of SSHA. I have "password-hash {SSHA}" in slapd.conf and though that means that SSHA hashes was enforced for all stored password. Both servers are Centos 4.4 fully updated and everything came from standard repositories. Is there someone who manage to use pam_ldap and the use of the 'passwd' command result in a SSHA hashed's password in the directory? Thanks, kfx
